i could see that - but like most movie-goers the audience/supporters are only interested in seeing explosions, nudity, and things to quote into oblivion.

not caring about the writing the cinematography etc

depends on the sport. something like baseball can get pretty fucking technical.

there is plenty of strategy and 'sports politics' to go around with something like football. if you lived in the south you'd understand how intense it can get beyond the obvious. its both disgusting and fascinating.

for me it's not about the game because it's not about the game anymore.

at all. it's a media circus centered around products for dollars.

college football has its own identity apart from the NFL, more so than any other sport and its professional counterpart. the sense of school pride, family roots, and deep rivalries can't really be found anywhere else you look to the same extent.

those people usually argue against sports from a personal standpoint (sports is where you reward bullies, strength and athleticism are overvalued, harpies often like to point out how "gay" sports are, etc), not a anti-commercial one

i just started thinking about football this way recently and it has enhanced my enjoyment of the games. i really really love football and grew up a big redskins fan but there is no way i can root for that team until dan snyder sells them or dies. and baltimore isn't that much of a better option.
