yes i don't understand that, who's being tortured now? bradley manning, maybe? and i don't really expect a change in "who really holds power" before a decade's span regardless of who i vote for

but i think my post was taken the wrong way. its not a swipe at people not voting for obama, just an example of how some people would rather their side lose than picking a candidate mostly for electability.

i know it's weird when someone doesn't want to accept the status quo anymore, and just cross my fingers and hope we have another economic boom

even if you somehow got a "moderate" republican in the white house. All of his appointments to the bench and to government agencies would be pulled from the Right Wing side of the political pool. That would be a disaster for the courts, for federal agencies and ultimately for the country. Especially if we ended up with one more right winger on the supreme court.

If all you want is a moderate pro business guy in the white house, just vote for Obama. not Huntsman needed.

gone are the days when a republican would nominate someone like O'Conner. It's a different world. I don't care how not right wing anybody might think Huntsman is, by the time he had to raise a billion dollars from all the right wingers he'd owe them. Look at how batshit ole Walnuts McCain got 3 years ago trying to keep those wingers happy. McCain is fairly conservative. But he ended up marching through the general election mouthing positions that he really didn't personally support. And it showed.

i had some knee jerk reactions like with the immediate katrina response where i question if my rage was warranted. i think seeing people going into seizures over obama doing any mundane thing made me a little more objective in retrospect.

as for bush, 2001-2007 was inexcusable in terms of state secrets and military conflict. i think the post-robert gates era saw the end of the "thinkin is for pussies" cowboy attitude. not that i think that absolves bush but it set a better course for the next admin, whether it was a republican or democrat one
