i intentionally retracted my statement a little with a little humor. of course there used to be some terrible shit back then, but i can't help but think that it still beats what we have now. i'm really tempted to go on an endless rant right now about how today's society\civilization has become all about serving yourself and yourself alone, unless you're serving a huge worldwide corporation. everything is more violent, volatile, money inclined. all those things might not be the invention of this generation but they sure as hell were milder in the 70's.
you have nuke threats almost daily, you have increasingly disastrous environmental issues, you have more and more people competing for the same land, same space, same job. the default sentiment you extract out of communicating with somebody you don't know is hostility. everything is more industrialized. ok i have indeed gone on a rant so ill stop now

pretty much what makes me think this, and this might sound stupid to you, is seeing the difference in interacting with some stupid punkass teenager, or interacting with an old man who was brought up to different values. people today, as a result of some of the things i mentioned, just have no courtesy. no respect whatsoever. when you talk to old people, at least most of them, you see the difference... things used to be different for the better, if only in the micro layer of interpersonal communication.
