in name only. Ron Paul is a libertarian and may actually have a better chance at the Presidency should he choose to run independant. Lord knows he's getting no party favors from the Republican machine at this point.

I agree. He should absolutely run as an independent. I would quite like that.

politico approached his campaign (and him) about 5 or 6 times from 10/20 until the published story?

so even if these are baseless accusations, this ineptitude when it comes to damage control either means there is something to this or that he and his campaign people are all really, really dumb.

IMO he doesn't expect to win or intend to try to win the nomination. He makes his living selling his books, motivational speaches and appearing at right wing gatherings. Not unlike other conservativs like Sarah Palin, Newt, Pat Buchanon, etc. he's screwing around in the primary as a way to boost his "brand".

Once it's over he'll negotiate a contract with Fox for a TV show.
this is copied almost verbatim from october 21st's real time with bill maher. shameless.

no, he was the head of the national restaurant association, a massive lobbying group with plenty of money.

it is not unheard of or even that strange for groups with enough money to settle out of court in order to avoid a full lawsuit. it doesn't mean he's guilty.

It had to be Romney. Just look at the timing.

"Does anyone believe that it is possible to win the nomination without, over these next two months, raising all these issues on him? ... Won't a single tape of [the Reverend Jeremiah] Wright going off on America with Obama sitting there be a game ender?" - Clinton Campaign leaked internal memo.

Bachmann and Perry are attacking Romney, as they should be. This just smells like something a politician who is trying to kill off a climber to his perch would do.

I dont think Romney takes him seriously.

And a Clinton campaign memo discussing the Wright issue is not proof of them leaking the thing to the media in the first place.

The source of that quote is an internal strategy memo, not communication between them and the press:
Then he shifted gears and went after his colleagues within the campaign:
Does anyone believe it is possible to win the nomination without, over these two months, raising all these issues on him? A “nice” campaign that wins the states along [sic] that can be won—will that be enough or do serious issues have to be raised about him?
If you believe that serious issues need to be raised then we have to raise them without continual hesitation and we should be pushing the envelope. Won’t a single tape of [the Reverend Jeremiah] Wright going off on America with Obama sitting there be a game ender?
Many people (Peter Hart excluded) believe under the surface that 20 years sitting there with Goddamn America would make him unelectable by itself.
----

Wright was a known issue back in '07, Obama asked him not be a part of his springfield coming out party. Now what you can say is that Penn brought up pushing the issue. Sure, clearly he did, and I'm sure they did. But thats not what you were claiming, now is it?

I'm saying they made it a campaign issue, as in it was on the front page all of a sudden.

if they were ever going to leak it to the press, there is no way they would have waited until late march.

i think you're remembering the timeline wrong.

edit: so i guess the story broke on march 13, so not late march. still too late for hillary to have leaked it though, i think.

it's not like the libertarian message is having trouble getting out, i think most people know the essentials it's not a complex or terribly misunderstood philosophy

Because the media conglomerates have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. That's something me, you and trots can agree on. Although you would focus more on the government aspect it's the same shit really
