Van Halen and Guns n Roses may or may not be hair metal, but they certainly blow

things i learned today: bands that fit the hair metal genre aren't as solidly agreed upon as i assumed.

they're both hair metal bands like gish was also a hair metal album

but seriously, why do GnR always play South America? do they really have a huge demand that doesn't exist here?

GnR kicks ass. I dont consider them hair-metal... Sure appearance wise maybe but I always think of hair metal as having that sorta distinct sound like Poison or Autograph or some of that shit... GnR is more just like rock and roll in an aerosmith sorta way...

Similar thing with Van Halen. They definitely had the hair metal appearance but didn't have the stereotypical "hair metal sound"

don't forget about the term "poodle rock"

gnr doesn't fit into that category. those guys were really tough for real. the band was formed as a testament AGAINST the shitty sunset strip hair boy bands. gnr did everything dirtier and meaner and realer. that's what sets them apart in my eyes.

also totally agree about van halen (not van hagar) being closer to arena rock than poodle rock for sure. i know it's a fine line but the weren't as faggy as any of the other hair bands - check out michael anthony for instance - just a fat hairy party dude. van halen was always first about the party while other bands were first about sex and that's what sets van halen apart.

Fuckin' Foreigner, man.

I've got a lot of Boston that I can dig on, but Journey I'm much more selective. I can think of one single Journey song I like.

Foreigner's got some good tunes. I'm more of a Scorpions man myself. Also ZZ Top have somehow managed to transcend just about every genre they've been associated with.

Gothic rock is post punk but not all post-punk is goth. Or something. All I know is gothic rock and post punk are awesome.

Look at the Au Pairs for example. Post punk, clearly not goth

Ehh not really. Hes still rocking out. Voice still sounds incredible. He made one helluva record with Chinese Democracy. Hes stuck to his guns and you gotta respect him for that.

Guns and roses makes music with appeal. Good musicians. That said, I fucking hate them. I'm sick of everyone telling me how great they are. Fuck 'em.
