look, there's actually not much new here in terms of technology used. in order to get more than vague shapes you'll have to somehow get more information from the brain than what can be aquired from blood flow, and that is a huge problem.

My group worked with interviewing and testing people to determine how sounds affected their brains in terms of color response (how does sound alter your vision and vise versa) and then taking this data and creating tones and noises based on what colors and patterns an electronic 'eye' sees.

This research was sent up a ladder that would be applied to people studying brain waves which would create tones based on how the brain was functioning or imagining.

The ultimate goal was basically to have a device that could create full orchestration, in real time, as the user imagines it.

I'm sure there was, but we were working on such a small area of the project we never got any updates. We were just a bunch of audio students with psychology minors/interest.

It was started from a thesis for creative uses of electrophysiology and electroencephalography. I'm sure if I dig through some boxes I can find some stuff I had from it.
