I didn't hear the Beatles at all until I was in my teens. I grew up listening to other 20th century music like Shostakovich, Mahler, Bartok, Scriabin. I started classical training in piano at 7 so by the time I heard the Beatlesfor the first time I was learning Beethoven sonatas. If you have put in hours of your life at a young age, to learn complicated musical pieces, and grew up only listening to quartets and symphonies and concertos, I'm sorry to say that the Beatles sound kinds puerile. I mean maybe that's what you guys like about them. I definitely have a soul. I just don't like the Beatles. But whatever.

I was 13 in 1993 and the pumpkins were huge then, and for most of my high school years...and I had a crush on Billy. I went through some hard times as a teenager and as a girl I guess I pinned a lot of hope on Billy and his music as a sort of hero/saviour figure. It was really unhealthy but listening to him sing about all his messed up feelings made me feel less alone I guess. I can't listen to any of that old stuff any more because it brings back too many memories. I didn't like anything from Adore onwards though...by that stage I'd sort of moved on into jazz and other stuff.
