...are you committing to living out there without even visiting? I'd maybe spend some time there first.

And duovamp probably gave the most constructive advice in this thread so far. Have you checked craigslist or other job listing sites?

edit: not that I have any idea what I'm talking about. just tryin' to be helpful : )

thanks, eulogy. and i will probably give it a small visit when i'm up there next month. i started browsing job listing sites last night but will probably put forth more of an effort this weekend.

i should probably check out temp agencies. i'd like to look at housing too but for now there is no point. finding an apartment is alot easier and more fun than finding a job so i'll save that for later.

BTW soy sauce - moving about like that is a lot of fun, tho every once in a while you become committed to something uncool because of the whole not looking before leap deal. But it can also be an amazing turn out. Hope the best for yas.

Haha, Brendan.

Didn't you say a little bit ago you were going to Portland? Why did you go from a thriving cultural city to Albany?

Well I don't know enough about texas to compare it to albany.. but I just know albany was lame. HOWEVER.. I live two hours south east of that in Western MA.. which is a beautiful area, and a great place to live. There's also parts of Vermont that are great. So Albany isn't that great, but there are other areas not too far off from it that are worth moving to.

That probably doesn't help, but if you're coming all the way out this way from Texas, Albany is probably one of the last places you want to consider. But visit the area before you make any choices.. you might end up seeing something in it I haven't.

Ah, ok. Why Albany? I mean, if you can just pick up and move anywhere in the country ... why Albany? NY taxes are obscene.

i considered the city first but that's too expensive and there are just too many people (i went there in december). albany seems okay to me...i can go to the city if i feel like visiting (i have a couple friends there) and i'll be close to you-know-who.

Well it should factor into your decision if you are going to pick up and move to a random city. Gas, food, income tax, etc. are all going to be a huge increase from Texas. Just wanted to help **** know what things she'll face living in Albany that she might not realize.

it only factors into your decision if you're a wanker

do you really think that her income level is high enough that it'll even be noticeable. i mean it's a pretty populous state it must not be that bad except for people that fetishize the money they lost instead of the money they have.

She'll be renting and I doubt she makes enough for it to be really significant. So I don't know about this statement here
