well for a few reasons.

1) xbox doesnt have very good dvd playback (also doesnt have progressive scan)
2) xbox's traditionally seem to be unreliable from what i've heard
3) with the dvd kit they cost over $200. i spent $122.50.
4) i already have a multimedia pc
5) i have no interest in xbox games
6) there's actually a reasonably decent chance that i'm getting a free xbox this afternoon through a friend

edit: forgot to add, xbox doesnt playback dvd-audio discs either.

Progressive scan doesn't matter unless you have a Digital TV or HDTV.

DO YOU HAVE ONE OF THOSE????????

Buy the new “Extreme Edition” DVD of Terminator 2, its built for high-end systems. (which mine isn’t) The video image looks even better than the Ultimate Edition DVD, which is saying something.

Also, the easiest way to wear out your X-Box or PS2 is to use it as a DVD player.

When I worked at Target, everyone was returning their xboxes and playstations because once they used them as a dvd player it would stop working correctly.

not really. nearly every single xbox and ps2 title is manufactured on dvd discs anyway. so if that's the case, you're going to wear out your machine playing games on it too. the xbox drives are far, far better than ps2's. ps2 decks have really bad drives on them, and the number one problem with them is the laser assembly crapping out.

yeah, bullshit explaination, I know. but I was at work when I wrote that so I didn't have the explanation in the booklet with me.

Anyhoo, the Ultimate DVD was done on an Interlaced scan and the Extreme DVD was done on a progressive scan, so the new disc looks like friggin gangbusters in comparison. go to www.thx.com/T2 for the indepth stuff.
