eh it's plodding along, i could be using blade since she basically turned into a stabby jumpy mage girl but noooooooooo (or security, jesus she goes through lockpicks like crazy)

i also pulled the difficulty down slightly. now i don't get killed on every encounter but it's still pretty hairy. I chucked it down low enough one time that I could kill trolls on one hit with the 25 point scorching touch. that was amusing for a little bit.

amen... one of the most overrated series in gaming

they sacrifice storyline and longevity for an epeen on size and scale. Considering how easy it is to automate landscapes and how buggy theirs were (as far as seems and mirroring) far from impressed.

What dude? The primary storyline is short, but there're hours upon hours of compelling gameplay. It's not really meant to be a game that you just run through, because you can and quickly. But to get the real Oblivion experience you gotta meander off the main trail. Plus being a vampire is cool. Not to mention the extra content

Yea but the artifact deal is constant and weighs one pound. But I never really did the spell caster deal except when you get to make your own spells and bring specific skills up to the next level or whatever. Which is particularly useful with repair.

there are spells that automatically open every kind of lock except maybe v. hard i dunno. i have v. easy, easy and average. I dunno if there's any past that, I haven't been to the guild hall.

and just to repeat, people who play action games complain about the length of the main story on this and Fallout. I'm sorry it's not the perfect 3 hour style you're used to.

I've played over 70 hours of Fallout and I don't think I'm even halfway through the main quest. Honestly I think sometimes you people are so used to action games and Final Fantasy that you just have zero imagination.

From a writing standpoint, it just means they couldn't combine the ideas into a fluid storyline. You could easily pull apart games with fantastic writing (ME1, ME2, Dragons Age 1, 2, Neverwinter series, Witcher, etc) and streamline the primary storyline and make a large portion of the game optional. That isn't a feature.

Mass Effect 2 is a much better way to do it. Plenty of optional or material that could have been made optional, that instead was intertwined in the main storyline and makes you quite a bit more invested in your characters.

I guess it all depends on how you game really. I'm generally not a fan of Bethesda's games.

Mass Effect 2 is a completely different game, again it's almost wholly linear and more in common with Final Fantasy JRPGs than Oblivion which is a more traditional Western RPG. Mass Effect you can barely even customize your character, Oblivion has one of the most customizable and unique leveling systems since Arcanum. I like them both, I think you could combine both elements of the games into one whole, but nobody's done that yet.

Everyone needs to rip off the cinematic approach Mass Effect has to talking heads.

I think I get stuck on how much of the worlds textures, landscape, and dungeons can be completely randomized and have little to do with design intent. I understand that is the efficient way of doing things but given that fact I'd expect an emphasis on writing, which I don't usually get from Bethesda games. The grand accomplishment of the game is use of the engine and less so anything to do with game design. That said, 6 months later when a new standard is set as far as performance or graphics, the game is forgotten.

Kinda my point.... and oblivions selling point was widely based on a sandbox rpg with great graphics.

You can't base your game on that as there's always a crysis waiting around the corner to dwarf your game

i wonder what the actual sales data is, as I recall Crysis could only be run by supercomputers and didn't sell very well whereas Oblivion was a massive hit, and Fallout probably bigger than that (and uglier, actually).

Your whole "point" is falling apart and seems little more than trollery.

It's hard for me to compare the two without some very long and expensive analysis... at the tax-payers' expense of course.

Immersion-shattering absurdity. Ruined the game for me.
