I had a discussion with someone about this flick not too long ago.

I told him I thought the ending was stupid and contrived, and seemed slapped together and hurried.

He insisted that I "just didn't understand it."

While I reitterated to him that I did, in fact, understand it but didn't like it, he continued on about how if you didn't like it, you obviously didn't understand it.

Most "Donnie Darko" fans seem to come off the same way.
