there was an article in our school paper that reported that 50% of this semesters college graduates would not be attending commencement because it was too time consuming.

Heh. About 200 students in my school didn't attend graduation becuz they COULDN'T attend graduation. They were either too sto0pid to pass their proficiencies, too sto0pid/lazy to pass all their classes, couldn't get all their clearances on time, had to pay fees (but didn't), couldn't clear their absences.

..And yes.. 2 hours of bullshit just to get a fucking piece of paper is pointless..fucking pointless..

I owed my school 20 bucks and still graduated. They never saw a penny from me!
