I never wanted designer clothes, either. Why would you buy a shirt for $50?

i get hand me downs and thrift store clothes simply because that's all i can afford.

fuck paying $20 for a shirt. i can get, seriously, 4 pairs of pants and a couple shirts for that at the State Avenue Thrift Store. I may have to look around a bit, but that's half the fun. (the other half is the $$ you're saving.)

that being said, i haven't bought clothes in a damn while.

most of the clothes I own are either gap, abercrombie, banana, or jcrew. I just like the clothes there. that's what i wear. They fit me better and I like the way they look. yeah they're a little expensive but my parents pay it. big deal. don't get on me about being the rich white kid, get over it. right now i'm wearing a blue and white button up shirt from abercrombie, jcrew jeans and sandals. i feel comfortable and look casual. done.

AE sucks though i hate their clothes. they fit funny and are all thin and cheap most of the time.

I do, too.

Once while I was in the mall, I collapsed in front of Abercrombie, writhed a little bit, then covered my ears and screamed, "Satan, I now know thy name... and it is Abercrombie and Fitch!" Passersby were a little startled.

no. its not that the best clothes in expensive and all the people secretly want it. its the fact thats its grossly and idiotically overpriced. a simple dress shirt shouldnt logically cost more than 50 bucks unless its handwoven and made by some rare kodak guy in the yukon once a year out of his own special pubes on his birthday or something. otherwise its just illogical unless you really really like the shirt

Around $80, I believe. There were some sales.

But hey, it's my parents money. And if you (the general you, not you specifically) don't like that, I really don't give a shit. I'm not going to feel bad because my parents have money. I'm sick of people trying to make me feel guilty about that. They weren't born into it. So they deserve it, goddamnit.

you like the clothes because, whether you realize it or not, social norms consider them to be nice. I just wish people would own up and admit this; there's not really anything wrong with it.

Paying a lot of money for what you wear, though, is an entirely different story. I never will understand it.
Everyone I know despises Abercrombie and Fitch and would rather kill themselves than buy clothes from there. So I don't see how my taste in clothes are influenced by 'social norms'....or maybe I misunderstood you. The clothes I buy from there look nice on me. A lot of stuff looks like total ass on me. I don't think that has anything to do with what social norms consider nice.

And if you have the money to buy nice clothes...why not? It's no different than buying a nice house or a nice car or going to a nice restaurant.
