Default Best Coen Brothers movie.

I can't really decide.

Fargo is their most serious work and the most tightly woven story. The Big Lebowski and Raising Arizona are comedy classics. I love the quirkiness of O Brother Where Art Thou and the subtle ironies of The Man Who Wasn't There. I like the dialouge of Miller's Crossing and the art design of Barton Fink and the Hudsucker Proxy. I like how Blood Simple is a slasher film, but also a kooky crime caper that the Coens do best. And I can't wait to see Geoffrey Rush and Cedric the Entertainer (along with George Clooney and Billy Bob Thornton) in their next movie, Intolerable.

I wonder what happened to the movie they talked about in the Playboy interview. Brad Pitt was supposed to have starred in it and it was called 62 Skidoo.

Oh and Barton Fink is their best movie.

Don't even try to say otherwise.

The Big Lebowski is second.

According to IMDb they have another movie due out in 2004 called The Ladykillers, but it doesn't say anything about who is in it.

They also bought the rights to Elmore Leonard's book "Cuba Libre" but nothing came from that, I don't think.

I am quite ashamed to admit it, but...

I have seen none of these movies.

Please don't think less of me, Brendan.

i voted for O Brother, actually, because overall i enjoy it more than Fargo, as great as that movie was. Big Lebowski is also enjoyable but there were a couple things in the movie i just didn't like that much. The Man Who Wasn't There was pretty good, but seemed undercooked. i enjoyed the characters (especially Thornton's performance) and the art of it, just not the story so much.

i haven't seen Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing, or Blood Simple though.

big lebowski is my personal favorite. it's got the intricate, epic yet quirky plot that pulls fargo together. and i think it's funnier than the rest because of characters are just so fucking awesome. you could put the dude, walter, donny and jesus the bowler in an empty room and come out with a kick-ass movie. and then there's the dream sequences.
barton fink has the best ending though.
and i still haven't seen the man who wasn't there...

it's probably the only one a lot of people have seen.

:/ in trying to be objective i ultimately voted for lebowski because i feel it's the most consistently watchable. secretly and truly i think blood simple is my favorite.

Crimewave is directed by Sam Raimi. I don't consider it a Coens movie.

It's not easy to find and I think they want to keep it that way.

I've seen all of the movies listed except for Barton Fink, and I stll voted for O Brother. Despite the fact that it's just a quirky, fun comedy, it is so re-watchable that I just have to vote for it. It cheers me up like no movie ever has. I guess Fargo is their BEST movie, imo, but O Brother is my favorite of theirs. Those three characters are just fuckin awesome.

Liewboksi rules but Fargo wins for the simple fact that the dude is shoved into a freakin wood chipper.

This is pretty much the same reason I like Hannibal even though everybody else hates it: it has brain eating.

oh yeah, and I think Miller's Crossing is an underrated Coen Brothers gem. And I still have to see the last hour of "O Brother", freakin hell...

i'm surprised at Big Lebowski. at the time it came out, you know following Fargo, it seemed like a good number of people were disappointed by it. i've only watched it a few times since i saw it in theaters. and one time we did it as a drinking game. take a drink everyone says "dude" or "fuck." i think we made it about halfway through the movie. heh.

O Brother has great cinematoraphy, a strong story, and the characters kill me. it's been a long time since i watched Fargo though, i should try to catch it again sometime.

EDIT: font tag.
