the oscars are bullshit. all it is is producers taking academy members out for lunch. the awards don't have any bearing on quality for the most part. see: crash winning best picture
but i'm interested in seeing if avatar wins. i think best pic should go to Hurt Locker |

As an Austrian and a movie fan I'm of course crossing my fingers for the fabulous Christoph Waltz, Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon (even though it's Germany's entry) and Michael Berger.
I met both Haneke and Berger (my girlfriend is attending the film academy in Vienna, where both are professors), and although Haneke is a douchebag and cocky as fuck in person, Berger is a very nice and kind professional. My picks: Best Motion Picture of the Year Avatar The Blind Side District 9 An Education The Hurt Locker Inglourious Basterds Precious A Serious Man Up Up in the Air Best perfomance by an Actor in a Leading Role Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart George Clooney for Up in the Air Colin Firth for A Single Man Morgan Freeman for Invictus Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side Helen Mirren for The Last Station Carey Mulligan for An Education Gabourey Sidibe for Precious Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role Matt Damon for Invictus Woody Harrelson for The Messenger Christopher Plummer for The Last Station Stanley Tucci for The Lovely Bones Christoph Waltz for Inglourious Basterds Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role Penélope Cruz for Nine Vera Farmiga for Up in the Air Maggie Gyllenhaal for Crazy Heart Anna Kendrick for Up in the Air Mo'Nique for Precious Best Achievement in Directing Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker James Cameron for Avatar Lee Daniels for Precious Jason Reitman for Up in the Air Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen The Hurt Locker: Mark Boal Inglourious Basterds: Quentin Tarantino The Messenger: Alessandro Camon, Oren Moverman A Serious Man: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen Up: Bob Peterson, Pete Docter, Thomas McCarthy Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published District 9: Neill Blomkamp, Terri Tatchell An Education: Nick Hornby In the Loop: Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci, Tony Roche Precious: Geoffrey Fletcher Up in the Air: Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner Best Achievement in Cinematography Avatar: Mauro Fiore Das weisse Band - Eine deutsche Kindergeschichte: Christian Berger Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Bruno Delbonnel The Hurt Locker: Barry Ackroyd Inglourious Basterds: Robert Richardson Best Foreign Language Film of the Year Ajami (Israel) Das weisse Band - Eine deutsche Kindergeschichte (Germany) El secreto de sus ojos (Argentina) Un prophète (France) La teta asustada (Peru) |

I saw The Blind Side and it really was a good movie. Not a hard movie, or an edgy movie, but a well-done, mainstream one. And Sandra Bullock wasn't annoying to me, which is a first, so probably she deserves her Oscar nomination. That said, I just saw Precious tonight, and Gabourey Sidibe is effing amazing and should win.
Also, Crazy Heart is great. Probably my favorite that I've seen this year. I like good movies and red carpet fashion. |

Do all of you James Cameron cum-guzzling jizznauts remember Dark Angel? He fucking MADE that abomination. Any future opinions you will ever have on anything are completely worthless.

So many movies I still need to see...
And someone explain this to me. I've never enjoyed a Sandra Bullock movie that I can think of. I don't know anything about her. But I find myself liking her and almost pulling for her in this. WHY?! |
