Arrow do you have social issues, problems, anxieties?

i was talking to my shrink yesterday, telling her about phoria, and she was so amazed at the way in which people can form communities and bonds over the internet
i know i suffer from panic attacks, and social anxiety and i have always distanced myself from people in school and in public situations, which is why i think i like to spend so much time online
i think it would be interesting to see how many other people here really feel this way or can find something that they relate to with which i just explained

discuss.

No. I'm completely well adjusted and do not have social issues or anxiety in the slightest.

I think so.

I've never been into a shrink or any other shit like that, but I have noticed things.

I don't really feel comfortable around a bunch of people I don't know. There are certain exceptions, however, like sporting events or concerts. I prefer to hang out with a small group of friends, and am rarely willing to meet new people.

Ever see that Bernie Mac routine in Kings of Comedy where he's talking about the kid who stutters and can't ride the bus because he can't talk? That's me.

It depends what you mean - you're obviously going to be a bit different (and therefore, interact differently) on the Internet than you are in real life. I think people are much more likely to come in here and speak their mind or say something stupid than they would around people they have a similar relationship with in real life. Personally I'm not very sociable (which doesn't mean I don't talk to people), and I don't express myself very well. Then again, I'm never on AIM either

the damn doctors keep trying to load me up with anti anxiety medications and anti depressants. i am not fucking depressed goddamnit.
they say that my arrythmia is caused by my anxiety- and that if i would just start taking the meds my heart would return to normal. they won't perform anymore tests on me until i take it- but i don't want to take it!
so i told them i would go to therapy- and i did! but my school only gives you 10 free therapy sessions a year and i attended 15, so i am not allowed to go there anymore.
fucking bastards.
so um... yeah. i think maybe i have something :erm

well don't take medications just because
it pisses me off that doctors do that..here take this! and your problem will be solved
talk to your school again, or ask friends if they know therapists that might be able to help you out
but don't start taking all that shit cos it makes you totally dependent and thats the last thing you want
and exercise
that really helps

I've been on Prozac and Effexor. Both made me even more anti-social and they also made me very sick to my stomach, all the time. And they were SUPPOSED to be with issues I was dealing with being bulimic. So much for that plan.

my step-dad doctor is a moron. self-diagnosing fuckface.

more evidence that these people aren't out to help you. I would encorage everybody to stay the hell away from shrinks and therapy.

I agree in general, but there are a few diamonds in the rough. The last one I had was amazing. She really was. She helped me through so much, when I had no one else to rely on.

i agree with you totally
the person i am seeing now has been a friend of my family for years, and i trust her and she only offered medication when i had to fly....but other than that she stays away from it
and i really needed someone to talk to so it has been great with her

I'm prone to pretty rare but violent panic attacks. I'd say I've had 4 or 5 in the past year. Apart from that, I think I'm fairly normal.

I have this sorta fear I guess of being alone in public places. I don't think its that big of a deal, I'm getting used to it now, but before I couldn't even walk outside without a friend (or Paul) next to me.

What exactly are panic attacks?

My problem is that I have a hard time trusting people, and generally prefer to be alone.
