Why can't I move anything around on my computer desktop?

None of my icons will move around, or copy into folders on my laptop's desktop. What happened? I could last night, and I just tried to move a mp3 into a folder and it wouldn't let me. Then I tried to move the folder and it won't let me.

Computer kids, unite and assist!

restart and see if that fixes it. always the first thing to try.

I restarted and problem still persists. And no, it's my home laptop. It's so random.

Isn't there a setting somewhere to make your icons line up, or be able to be placed anywhere? I found I can rearrange them, but they automatically line up in columns.

Right click on the desktop. Go to 'arrange icons by.' You'll see some options.

Yea, I know that. But out of those options, it still puts them in a line. I want a few folders on the far right of the screen to seperate from the nonesense that's on the other side.

Woe is me on pc's. I wish I had my iMac back. :/

I dunno, deselect 'Auto-arrange' on that same menu?
