Red face Buffy the Vampire Slayer- the final episode

I can't believe no one made a thread about this.

So did you watch the series finale last night? What did you think of it? On one hand, I was a little disappointed...I think it could have been better. But, on the other hand, there were a lot of little small things that made it rather perfect. I'm really gonna miss Buffy...it was one of the few things on tv worth watching...and it was easily one of the greatest shows of all-time.

I saw a part of it where they were ripping off the fighting scenes from the Lord of the Rings.

Buffy looks old.

its always a weird feeling when a seven year chapter of my life closes like that. very bittersweet.

well i would be lying if i didn't say that those last two years the overall season arcs have been below average. so i guess its not that huge that they're done.

i dont disagree -- though i think all the "college years" have been of equal (high) quality, however not as great as the "high school years". its more of, me missing the buffy show as a whole, all those years combined, and everything i associate with it over those years, i mean.

I loved it. I thought the episode was a bit cliched(the "i wish you would get out of my face" scene), but i thought it summed the show up very well. The end wasnt as emotional as i thought it would be, but was great. Im really gonna miss it once fall roles around, i took the quality of show for granted, it was still leaps and bounds above 99% of the other TV shows. its gotta go down as the most underrated show of all time.

what was up with andrew getting to live and anya dying? it seemed kinda pointless to me. it was announced last week that Spike is joining the cast of Angel next year, so they must bring him back to life (or is that death?)

I thought it was pretty good, although i would have enjoyed it more if i didn't browse stupid internet spoiler sites.

i agree, i cried so much when i saw anya on the fkoor, andrew should have died & what's up with faiths whigger talk? i know she's a jersey girl but she was using more slang than usual.

HA HA HA tee hee.
Ehhhh, you're funny, but no. My vote would probably go to "That 70's Show" or something.

Anyway, the ending was a real big let down. I dunno, I just dislike the train of episodes leading up to that ending. Come on... an "army of slayers"? No no. I think maybe because the "army of slayers" were really pussy, cheap, cheesy actresses. I mean, really cheesy, they must have been running out of money or something to have hired them. I find the show Buffy a little cheesy sometimes, although there are episodes when I'm just blown away. Especially the later episodes were pretty good. I think Willow makes it for me because I always thought she was really cute and then it was just an added bonus when she became a lesbian.

I would have liked to know more of what happens with Dawn. I mean, I know she's all normal and shit, but doesn't she have powers locked up or something because she's a "key" to something? I saw some episodes of Dawn, but I can't ever for the life of me figure out what happened to her "powers".

Yeah, and as someone pointed out, Faith did ******* alot of slang. I think she really overdid it with the wigger speak. I used to like her, but who the fuck is writing the dialouge? It's fucking terrible, her dialouge and those of the stupid girls in the "army of wannabe slayers". I used to think Faith was prettier than Buffy, but I don't know... she got old or something. What happened to her? Oh, I don't look forward to aging.

By the way, Buffy mentioned something like she started doing the show when she was 18 and now she's 26! Wow, that's an awfully long time, I'd definitely be really nostalgic to part from the cast.

Anya shouldn't have died.

i guess it was ok. it was a good episode, but an inadequate final episode.

i figured joss would have been a bit more true to his past than he ended up being. the ubervamps were pussified more than the borg were on voyager, i can see a small army of slayers holding their own against them, but giles, principal wood and anya? buffy just bearly killed ONE of them last time. and the first! HOW exactly does killing the ubervamps kill the first? isn't the first a manifestation of all the evil in the world? are we to believe there's no more evil in the world now? that's gonna make for one boring season of angel next year.

that's not to say there weren't good things about it. the throwbacks to the early days ("to every generation", "the world is doomed") were a nice touch. most of the final battle LOOKED cool, some of it fell short (like that one wire-assisted shot of that mousey potential doing a flying kick, cheesetastic!). the multiple slayers thing fit in nicely with the "every generation" stuff (they still didn't explain it enough though, are they STILL all slayers or what?). i saw the mystery plan coming a mile away, but the flashback with the shots of the girls from around the world was nicely done. destroying sunnydale and the hellmouth was one of the few ends they tied up nicely.

i guess it's an odd complaint, but i was hoping for more character deaths or, at the very least, some closure on the characters, but they didn't resolve anything! the amulet (and how it managed to kill the first) went totally unexplained, as did the permenancy of the potentials' becoming slayers, as did buffy and the gang's future plans. buffy's still the (slightly less) tortured slayer, dawn's exactly where she was after last season's finale (they baited something big for her and just plain didn't deliver), nothing big on the horizon for willow, xander or giles either. anya is the only character who's fate we know. dying might be a cheap way to close the book on a character, but it's better than leaving it open. the "business as usual" ending might not be an inheirently bad way to end a series, but i don't think it works for buffy. if they really wanted to go that route, buffy moving onto other things, faith dying and a new slayer being called, completing the cylce, would have sufficed. they made it seem like narrowly escaping the end of the world was no big thing 6 times already, it would've made the finale "special" if it actually made an impact this time. i think they actually managed to put less to rest than any of the previous season enders (most of which were cliffhangers). they might as well have ended it "to be continued, wednesdays next fall, back on the wb."

maybe the weight of the ending was lessened for me by learning, before seeing it, that james marsters (spike) is signed on for the next season of angel. i can't imagine that one bit of seeming closure would undo all my misgivings about the finale, but it would have helped. the mystery surrounding his apparent "death" now is what form he'll return in. my guess is human, as per that prophecy from angel (also two souled vampires on one show is a bit much).

i think that joss's expertise is at writing really sad endings and *not* giving the audience what it wants. the season finale seemed like last minute attempt to tie everything up with a happy ending and that just doesn't work that well.
