Yeah, what happens when you've used all of them up? Do you die? Does Dr. Phil emerge from the wall with a machete and say "You unlucky bastard, that was number ten! But you did abbreviate the word 'experienced,' which should piss a lot of people off, so I'll give you a freebie."

you're obviously judging her parents and anyone else who cares for her for allowing her to be "without rules" and need a "proper diet" where she follows the strictest of food pyramids each day. There's a point when you have to let a child who can't talk and has diminished capacities for communicating do the kind of activities that they can enjoy. She can't read. she doesn't like most of TV. she plays but not in the way other kids play. If she drifts off into her own world where she forgets that she can't do shit like run away from an adult into the street, it's not as a result of lack of rules.

and since she can't communicate and reason with you, you can't just feed her a "proper diet" unless she wants to. you can't force-feed children. Her parents are doing the best they fucking can. If you've raised/are raising a child with a developmental disability along with two others, please, inform me how her parents could do better, because i'm sure they'd love experienced advice.

you're probably right, of course. It was just kind of a coincidence because i was at a friend's house the day before who had that book of his, and i was reading the chapter about the 10 things. Then this incident occurs and no matter what happens to it in the long run, it had a huge impact on me now.

Christ. If that happened to me, I would feel the same exact way.

So, um, for what little it's worth, I send my support.

To all of you who are saying that it's not her fault, and the kid was just out of her control... would you be saying that if it were your kid? How about if the kid died?

Bottom line: when a young kid is under your supervision, they are your complete responsibility. There are no exceptions!

Random Female, I sympathize because I know how difficult little kids can be. But I think you learned something... you're not ready for babysitting both of them at once. I wouldn't be either. Just stick to one kid at a time, and it'll still be a big help for your aunt!
