Coca-Cola to launch milk drink

From correspondents in Atlanta

May 24, 2003

THE Coca-Cola Co plans to launch a milk-based drink this summer, aimed at children and teenage consumers.
The Atlanta-based company will launch the new drink, called Swerve, in July. It will come in three flavours: chocolate, vanilla/banana and blueberry.
Swerve, which contains 52 per cent skim milk, will be sold in 330g cans that have a figure of a grinning cow wearing dark glasses, company spokesman Scott Williamson said today.
Swerve is the latest offering in a small but growing beverage category of milk-based drinks.
Coke has been exploring and testing milk drinks for about three years.
Last year, the company introduced Choglit, a chocolate-flavoured drink. Choglit could potentially pose a threat to Yoo-hoo, a brand that has been around since the 1920s. Yoo-hoo is part of the Snapple Beverage Group, which is owned by Cadbury Schweppes.
Pepsi's SoBe unit also has a chocolate dairy drink called Love Bus Brew, which is made with milk, Dutch chocolate and a blend of vitamins and ginseng.

Yeah, Chocolate Soldier didn't put much of a dent in their business.

I saw some of that at a dollar store once, and it had chunks of stuff floating in it, and it looked like liquified human excrement. I was almost sick standing in the aisle.
