Default I am throwing a dinner party

For 8 of my friends, 6 of whom comprise 3 couples. It's gonna be a classy red-wine courtyard-dining affair. We have one vegatarian and one chili wuss amongst the numbers. Originally my plan was to knock up a few curries but i'm beginning to think it may be easier to do something else.

Being 19 and all this is kinda new territory for me. Anybody got advice?

Raclette is always awesome, especially for a larger group of people.

I would recommend an orgy, if you've never done one of those before. But then again orgies are not very much fun when nobody wants to do it with you.

For this sort of thing I usually do some sort of finger food as a casual starter, and then I normally do a big curry, but I just do a couple of different curries if there are bitches in the house.

If you make your curry from scratch just make a huge amount of base curry sauce and then split it and make a normal human being curry, then make a veg korma for the pussies.

I usually buy in dessert though, mostly cause I don't tend to like to spend a long time on desserts, I get these bad boys with cornish vanilla ice cream because they are like heroin. I can make a damn fine apple crumble too but I usually can't be arsed.

Good advice there christ. I tend to want to do two completely different types of curry though. Was thinking a butter chicken and a lamb korma but i might even do a lamb vindaloo and a vegie korma now i think about it cause two of the dudes are huge meat/chili junkies so i can just make the vindaloo burn arses off.

only thing I can add is making sure your place is clean and that you have some music playing to set the scene.

You could still do a curry....and for the vegetarian steam some vegetables like broccoli and what not and then throw the curry sauce over that....maybe get some water chestnuts for a crisp touch. that might work out well for them and it's quite easy to prepare

I might recommend an apertif to give to guests while they arrive or before dinner.
Buy a few bottles of cheaper brut (dry) or extra-dry (lightly sweet) champagne/sparkling wine (korbel or coppola -not as cheap as andre-), a bottle of Chambord (frambois liquour) or St Germain (Elderflower liquour). Get some plastic champagne glasses, and pour champagne in each, and add a chambord or st germain float to each (like a little more than a splash). St Germain will give a almost citrusy/grapefruity aroma to the champers (also great with a few drops of angostura bitters if you have any around), while chambord will give a hint of raspberry and a nice pink hue. (the chambord and st germain can be pricey ($30/btl) but you can get smaller bottles to fit the amount of people that will be there. Also, if you go to a big wine/liqour warehouse you will be able to find cheaper substitutes.

Bruscetta is always a nice starter to go along with traditional cheese and crackers, and super easy to make. Get a few baguettes, spray or drizzle them lightly with olive oil, pepper, and a pinch of salt, toast them in the oven until golden brown, top with diced tomatoes, goat cheese, olives, or spinach artichoke dip,or whatever antipasti you have around. Your supermarket should have a cheese/hummus/sausage cooler near the deli section that will have a great variety.

curry and red wine go together like shit and biscuits imho. there's not much point in buying decent wine if you're going to chilli the fuck out of your tastebuds.

maybe try a puttanesca (this is probably italian-food-freak sacrilege, but consider leaving out the anchovies for your vegetarian friend) with some antipasto goodtimes to start? bruschetta + pesto ought to do the trick. no need to overdo it; save your money for the wine

edit: found another recipe
