I think it'd be mildly funny if this hurricane destroyed the statue thats a memorial to the 1900 hurricane victims. I would be surprised if it didn't get damaged at least a bit. Luckily my dad gets to spend the weekend in northwest Houston, so I'm sure he'll be okay minus some ridiculous weather.
It took my sister 6 hours to get from Houston to Austin.

yeah, dad said the powers been out since midnightish? the fence on the left side of the house by thr tv room is leaning into the neighbors yard, and the fence along the back of the yard is completely down. he joked about the nice view of the neighbors yards. he's fine, he just wants electricity back. his cell doesn't work, but the cord house phone still works sooo..
oh and moms been in this area since yesterday. she's on vacation with some girlfriends.
I wonder if Lindas apartment got any damage from the wind.

I expect NOLA to basically disappear as a US City. As in, abandoned. There's no way people can keep living there for more than a few years. Even that is pushing it.

My brother's fine - their neighborhood didn't flood but the rest of Baytown's fucked. His boat, which is a fiberglass bass boat, was thrown off the trailer and sent into a neighbor's shed. My brother's stuff all in storage flooded - so he basically lost all his household items.

But, they're fine - thankful for that. He's been helping neighbors cut trees off roofs and stuff.

edit: Finally got through to the land line. Their house is luckily unharmed, but several trees around the area fell and landed on cars and whatnot.

hte power went out friday afternoon and is still out. our land line doesnt work, either. for the first day or two after the hurricane you couldnt use a cell phone because there was so much phone traffic. a bunch of trees fell down all over the place. yesterday we got over to an HEB that had power and only had to wait 10 min for groceries and 2 bags of ice. school reopened today and they hve power and internet

no. it took 2 days to clear all the crap out of our lawn and it made a pile as big as a bus or at least a stretch limo but our house is fine

how long are they expecting it to be out? cause i dont see how a family of 8 can live without power for any extended amount of time. dont you have family or friends with it?
