I am not going there for vacation. How long does it take by bus to Cape Town? 2 days? Have you ever been to Swaziland or Maputo? I might rather go there if I have time, it is closer.

Swaziland is an independent country within the SA borders, but not a part of South Africa. I don’t know what your passport situation would be for there. But for me it’s pretty easy. I think it’s cause I’m an SA citizen though. It’ll take about 5 or 6 hours by car to get there maybe?

Again: it’s part of another country. I don’t know what the visa setup for you is. But I do recall it’s not as easy for non south Africans (some friends have British passports, and had some more trouble getting in).

For you, a national plane flight would probably be quite cheap. With your foreign currencies and such. A flight takes an hour and a half from JHB to CT. A drive takes about 13 hours.

Is Swaziland way different than SA? Or Mozambique? How about safety? Is it about the same as SA? How much does Johannesburg-Cape Town flight cost in USD?
What should I do around Johannesburg, if I have 2,3 days? I like hiking, I can live without safari.

Fun things to do are mostly based in the night life, I guess.
If you do like hiking, there are bunches of places to go. But be aware, speak to locals, you may get mugged depending on where you decide to hike. (If you know where you’re staying I could make some specific suggestions?)
You probably wont get killed.
It’s really not that bad, just stay in touch with locals and you’ll be fine, we all know where and what to avoid.
Swaziland has the highest rate of AIDS in the world.
And I personally think Swaziland and Mozambique are VERY different to SA. Things are a lot less developed there, mostly.
But if you’re looking for that kind of thing, they’re beautiful.
