Unhappy

I dunno, but sometimes I feel like I have to pee and I don't. Or if I do, it hurts. Times like that, I think it's because I have a urinary tract infection. I'm not sure, I never got a doctor to check it out. I should probably go and do that.

Talking to me or jenny? I've been checked for STDs within the last year because I used to take hormone shots and birthcontrol pills. Eh, they said I have to be checked, so they checked me.

Also, it used to occur to me when I was young and still a virgin.
Also, my gramma has bladder problems, maybe it runs in the family.

Well in any case, if you have those types of problems you should see a doctor if it just comes up.

Plus, if you know how to treat them properly, you don't have to wreak havoc on your body with antibiotics.

I am the queen of bladder infections, so listen up!

If you don't have enough money/insurance to go see a doc and get on antibiotics (which is strongly encouraged, by the way), I deal with mine by taking an over-the-counter urinary pain reliever such as uristat. That only bad thing about Uristat is that it makes your pee bright orange. But I find it kind of entertaining.
I also take cranberry supplements daily. And drink cranberry juice when I can. The acidity in the juice apparently coats your bladder and fends off bacteria suchs as e-coli, which is actually the cause of most urinary tract infections.

Drink tons of water to flush out your bladder. Then when you feel like you need to pee in a while, you actually will and it will speed up the process of getting rid of the infection.

As for the blood, that's bad. I've only had that happen to me twice, and each of those times, I needed antibiotics. You need to get that taken care of, because otherwise it can spread to your kidneys, and that is BAD. That can cause many more painful, dangerous problems that you do not want to deal with.

As for what causes them, it can be hygenic reasons (which I assume is not the case), but usually (as for me) it is caused by irritation from sexual intercourse.

If you can go to a doctor and get some antibiotics, that would be best. You most definitely don't want it to turn into a kidney infection, which is what can happen to bladder infections that are left untreated.

Causes of bladder infections...

Quote:
The most common cause of UTI is bacteria from the bowel that lives on the skin near the rectum or in the vagina which can spread and enter the urinary tract through the urethra. Once bacteria enters the urethra it travels upward causing infection in the bladder and sometimes other parts of the urinary tract.

Sexual intercourse is a common cause of urinary tract infections because the female anatomy can make women more prone to urinary tract infections. During sexual intercourse bacteria in the vaginal area is sometimes massaged into the urethra by the motion of the penis.

Women who change sexual partners or begin having sexual intercourse more frequently may experience bladder or urinary tract infections more often than women in monogomus relationships. Although it is rare, some women get a urinary tract infection every time they have sex.

Another cause of bladder infections or UTI is waiting too long to urinate. The bladder is a muscle that stretches to hold urine and contracts when the urine is released. Waiting very long past the time you first feel the need to urinate causes the bladder to stretch beyond its capacity which over time can weaken the bladder muscle. When the bladder is weakened it may not empty completely and some urine is left in the bladder which may increase the risk of urinary tract infection or bladder infection.

Other factors may also increase a woman's risk of developing UTI including pregnancy, having urinary tract infections or bladder infections as a child, having past menopause, and diabetes.

HEY, FOR SOME REASON I CAME TO THAT CONCLUSION! The last time I had [what I'm supposing is] a urinary tract infection, I felt it right after I had sex and I know that my bf was rubbing his hairy groin area everywhere down there. So yeah.

Drinking too much water can actually aggravate an infection or make you think it's getting worse even when it's not. And if you've had them before, you KNOW when it's getting serious, and furthermore, if you have recurrent infections you shouldn't be taking that many damn antibiotics because that will fuck with you sooner or later. The key is to not be so freaking panic-stricken about the whole thing. I usually take cranberry supplements a few times a day with half a glass of water until it goes away. Hardly phases me at all anymore.

Besides, 75% of women are prone to contracting yeast infections from antibiotics. Then you find the damn yeast infection won't go away and you have to go running back to the doctor. Womens' health in a nutshell. Wake up, America.

bulllshit. i have never, ever had a yeast infection and I have had at least 10 cases in my lifetime (I got them when I was little, too)where i have had to take antibiotics to kill the UTI which spread to my kidneys. if you take antibiotics as you are directed and your doctor mixes up which ones you take and prescribes them properly, they will work effectively. They key is to make sure that you get it taken care of before your kidneys are endangered, because it is extremely painful and dangerous, and you can die if the complications get serious.

Notice I pointed out that my comments pertained to people, women specifically, who A) are obviously not children, and B) know the difference between a urinary tract infection and a full-blown kidney infection. Forgive me if it seemed like I was replying directly to the thread title; a bladder infection IS something to worry about...I was referring to typical cases of frequent UTIs when a person can recognize the symptoms and knows how to treat them safely. I myself have had at least ten in my lifetime and have had several of them treated by a doctor. I'm familiar with the procedure.

Furthermore, I don't think you, being one case, stacked up against stats of 75%, is contradictory, nor does it warrant it bullshit.

What is in fact bullshit is the belief that most doctors are appropriately sensitive to womens' health issues, that Americans don't take too many antibiotics without thinking about it, and that antibiotics are not potentially damaging to the immune system when given out in large doses. I'm not saying that my own experience or that experience of people I know is applicable to everyone, or that any of these facts apply to everyone, as you seem to be, I'm simply stating that there is a large body of hidden knowledge concerning womens' health, and that there is a certain amount of exploitation which does occur with womens' health issues. If you've been lucky enough not to run up against any of this, that's absolutely fine. Everyone does what's best for them or what they ultimately find to be the least stressful method. To be safe I would tell anyone who had doubts about an infection to see a doctor and get antibiotics, but I feel perfectly safe and calm with my own methods, and have found they work for other people, too. I always use a home testing kit after a certain amount of time to make sure the infection is gone and that I don't need to see a doctor. Kidney infections are not even that much of an immediate concern with what seems to be a simple UTI, especially since normally when you go to the doctor with a UTI they don't even bother to test you for a kidney infection unless you're running a fever. If you have problems with your kidneys or have a history of kidney infections, this is obviously a concern, but if you're just a female who happens to develop minor UTIs from sex irritation, too much caffeine, stress, and other factors occasionally, you sometimes have to deal with these things your own way, and treating them yourself, when you know what you're doing, is not nearly as risky as most doctors would have you believe.

Well I agree, completely. I haven't been to the doctor in a long time because of just that, I am able to gauge what needs to be checked out and what doesn't. I just wanted to emphasize that women who don't get them all the time and are unable to sense what is going on should go get it checked out.

And I grew up with a doctor step-dad and a nurse mother, and the step dad was usually the one who would prescribe me antibiotics, and he obviously didn't want to fuck my immunity up... but I can see how if you havethe regular Joe Blow doctor, things could be overshot/neglected.
