People were saying that 10 years ago too. Here's a bit from snpp.com on thier episode guide. This is for an old, classic episode (Homer Goes to College) back when Conan O'Brien used to write for it in 1992/93 and ppl were throwing reviews around on Newsgroups or whatever the hell the Internet was 10 years ago. And back then they even said that the show had "lost it":
http://www.snpp.com/episodes/1F02.html Homer Goes to College Written by Conan O'Brien Original airdate in N.A.: 14-Oct-93 Eliot Williams: I found this last episode to be utterly devoid of any plot and there were extremely few _funny_ parts. I normally laugh hysterically at least once during an OFF episode, but not this week. I sincerely hope the quality of the shows improve. Chris Corcoran: The college episode was the worst Simpsons episode I've ever seen. I've loved every other episode, I'm not at all critical when I watch but what happened? Are there new writers? I'm embarrassed. I've gotten so many people into this show, and now I look stupid. Ron Carter: Yikes! Really, really bad, and the "true" second show of the new season? *sigh* My score for it? The same score Homer gets on his final: F. Greg Charles: After watching the last three episodes, I have realized that the show sucks now. Oh, it's not easy for me to say that, but come on, they're not putting any thought into anymore. Satire has been replaced with sight gags. The characters are losing their individual personalities. The storylines have become a series of non sequiturs. The whole thing reminds me of the last season of Moonlighting, and we all know how ugly that got! Shauna Farr-Jones: The three episodes so far this year have a lot more violence and I thought were far less funny. The Simpsons is the only show I ever watch but if this writing continues, I won't bother. ---------------- just goes to show the more shit changes, the more it stays the same cuz people will bitch about it on the Internet anyway. |

There comes a point in time when everything loses it's appeal. For the majority of people, they've been bitching since season 9. for me, it's been since this season.
Oh well. At least the latest episode was good.

The Simpsons has really gotten more bizzare, which can be a good thing at times. And sometimes a joke takes a backseat to characterization. like, for example, in the latest episode, The Simpsons go to see Duffman as he's working with the alcoholics. They ask Duffman to come back and help. If this had been done, like, 5 seasons ago there would have been a whole sequence of trying to convince Duffman to come back to his job, reminding him of who he was, etc. etc. This one it took Duffman about 5 seconds to kick everything to the curb. Funny joke, though, but it reduces the characters to caricature. The thing about the Simpsons, even being animated they were never cartoony. It seems to have crossed that line now.
I still laugh at it and enjoy watching new episodes but I don't think its as relevant as it was back then. Still, I kinda like this hyper-Simpsons we have now, cuz its just REALLY random at times, which can either be great or fall flat. edit: One problem though, I do admit, way too many guest stars that have no relevance to the plot. At least awhile ago, they either had the celebs A) do character voices or B) if a celeb was involved in an episode, it helped drive the plot (ala Homerpaloza, Kim Basinger, Mel Gibson, Mark Hamill) and worked kinda naturally in the storyline. A month ago, Wierd Al Yankovich showed up for NO REASON and played a song that did absoultely nothing for the plot. Either come up with good ideas as to why celebs should be on the show, or just ditch 'em. Last edited by Ugly : 05-05-2003 at 03:32 AM. |

i think anytime you watch something so much or listen to a band so much and love it... so much... and then they do something a little different because they can't really keep doing the same thing people tend not to like it. they want more of the good ol' days. and plus they also just get sick of it in general. like im sure if radiohead kept making records that even the people who loved kid a will join those believers in the bends or ok computer and start to say they suck |
