Had a argument with the girly about this a while back and tonight it kinda came up again.
Is the midwest US completely uncultured? Or does it just seem that way to the east and west coasters when infact the midwest has the best of both worlds? Having gotten a bit of travel under my belt in the past few months I've had these retarted thoughts: A) LA is only interesting because there are a few million people telling each other how great it is and those people in the event they broke away from these ideas would never let anyone else even remotely think LA sucks as the whole foundation of LA (hype) would fall apart. B) NYC's cultural influence, while vast in comparison to most areas, is simply many different people trying to act like they're from NYC there for eliminating most of the cultural influence. Talking with the girly about her transfering locations within her company, she's all about getting back to LA or trying to hit the east coast and how much the midwest blows donkey dick and blah blah blah. But time and time again I find her encountering shit she would NEVER encounter in the hugely populated areas that are viewed to be "cultural". Maybe it's the red bull and vodka but the midwest seems to be a lot more cultured than most give it credit for... and in a more unique way than a bunch of midwest kids moving to the coast to fit an ongoing stereotype |

I don't think that the midwest sucks. It is different than other the coasts and all, but different people prefer different things. From my experience, the midwest is more laid back but it isn't a cultural cesspool or anything.
But, I am thinking of leaving the midwest again. For personal - not cultural or regional - reasons. |

nah, the midwest is as bad as everyone thinks. KC is completely devoid of culture.

the mid west isn't that bad. i trust a large midwest city like chicago more than i'd ever trust a town like L.A.
i think the people are friendlier as well |

I don't think the mid-west is that bad, I would go there every summer until I was 18 or 19 to visit with relatives and always found something to do. There are some places that are boring as hell but it's not as if there aren't places like that all over.

The Midwest is okay. I love some aspects of it, like Chicago and any of the larger cities. But where I am, I sometimes wonder if I'm living an episode of Roseanne.

people generally tend to find what they're looking for. The personal preference one may have for a particular place doesn't reflect objectivity, but rather the way one's conditioned to perceive. Much of LA's overrated hype comes mostly from transplants who were just tired of their hometowns for whatever reason and now look at LA as the greatest place in the world.

The mid-west can, for the most part, be summed up in one word: Gummo.

i think it all depends on what you want out of a town/area.
you have to look for it. there's good and bad in everywhere you can live. |
