i just called my mom to say whats up cause i havent talked to her for all of today. she was like 'wut r u doing'. i was like 'i just finished my homework. gonna hit the gym. then walk home and study'

she was like 'are u meeting jessica at the gym'?

i was like 'no'

she was like 'ergh. mija, i dont like you walking home at 10pm. please go home right now. for me.'

i was like 'but im gonna get fat'

she said 'please. you'll understand when ur a mother'

i was like 'fine. ergh'

she was like 'let me know when you get home. i'll be expecting your call in the next 30 minutes'

WELL. THERE GOES MY WORK-OUT. I WILL BE 23 YEARS OLD IN JUNE. THIS IS A LITTLE TOO OVER PROTECTIVE. IM A BIG GIRL!

My parents do this too. My mom called me twice on Saturday afternoon and I didn't pick up because I was busy, and then she called again Saturday night "because I didn't call her back earlier and I usually do so she was worried." Of course, she didn't leave a voicemail, so I figured it wasn't important.

Speaking of, my parents have an extraordinary knack for calling me when I'm getting some. Jeez Louise.

Is she very curious too? I really do appreciate my family's concern, but if I mention I hung out with "a friend" rather than someone specific, suddenly it's 20 questions. I'm not trying to be evasive. It's just, I live 750 miles away and hang out with people on occasion whose names are not going to be familiar and who are not going to come up in conversation enough to explain.

Yeah, she's extremely curious too, and whenever I answer who I was out with, she doesn't know who they are anyhow so she launches a brigade of questions. I haven't lived with her in almost 7 years, I don't know what she expects from me. She's the reason my roommate and I decided not to get a residential line, so that he wouldn't have to deal with her overprotective calls.

She's on a warpath right now because my uncle is getting married in April and I am expected to bring a date. I'm not seeing anyone seriously at the moment, so I don't want to bring someone that I on very casual dates with to my family's gong show wedding, but I can't go dateless. My best friend offered to be my date, pick me up on his motorcycle, and scare the crap out of my family when we pull up.

I love him for this.
