Default Hey car people, I need help buying tires

A while back someone here (I believe) posted a very good web site that helped nail down which types of tires are recommended for your car model, climate, et al.

We're getting close to needing four new tires, and I'd like to research before walking into Goodyear or whatever and spending $1,000 on them with no prior knowledge.

Vredestein are the best tyres for wet weather. Otherwise get Firestone, Goodyear or Michelin

Don't go to Goodyear man, they charge more for their own shit than others do.

I do all my tire shopping here http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/home.do

www.tirerack.com

Remember, the tires are the most important part of the car, so don't buy some low-end Kumhos or BFGs. I personally prefer Yokohamas (AVID V4S) and Pirellis (P-Zero Nero), specifically Pirellis. I've had good experiences with Falken (Azenis) too, though the tires weren't on my car but my friend's. If you get a good tire picked out you can post it here first and I'll try to give you some input. Are you looking for all-season btw?

All season, yeah. My tires are a fucked-up size, so it greatly limits the numbers available.

So far I found the Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S and the Michelin LTX M/S. Currently we have the Dunlop Radial Rover AT which are pretty decent. Snow handling is our biggest desire, since we aren't putting on specific winter tires.

I'm not a fan of putting on winters then switching back to summers, so I support getting all-season for a consistent driving feel, plus you pay to tear the tires off every time. As soon as I saw the names of the tires I figured you were putting them on an SUV or truck of sorts. I can speak for Yokohama as a brand, however Michelin makes a mean truck/SUV tire. My parents own an SUV and it's been on Michelin LTXs, and I can say they're very competent off-road and through 2 inches of snow on the road. The Yokohamas are going to give you a more, if you can imagine it, tarmac-only kind of feel, while the Michelins will be more rugged. So if you think you're going to be encountering more snow than just doing some long driving, I'd go with the Michelins. If you don't honestly expect to risk getting your vehicle stuck in a mudhole or snow drift, get the Yokohamas. The ride quality will drop a tiny bit from the Michelins, but these differences will only be pretty slight. Between the two the Michelin will be more a more rugged tire, though not noticeably or anything like that. I'd probably get the Michelins if your concern is driving in the snow on rare occasion.
