i've found it's really all about preparing and feeling comfortable with the material. if it's on a topic new to you, practice it a bunch. on the other hand, i've gone up and done a 10 minuterer about drumming without having previously run it through and it was my best one.

I hate doing this stuff too, i just remember you're not supposed to sit or slouch and constantly keep your eyes moving and/or move about the presentation area. Try to make it seem like you're addressing the entire class, not just him, even though i'm sure you basically are just addressing him and half the class doesn't give two tiddly fucks what you have to say anyway.

The idea of them used to freak me out too but now that i've done 2 or 3 of them it's not as nerve racking.

oh yeah, try to make it not look like you're just reading off a paper or note cards. In my class it was ok to use these things as helpful topic reminders to glance at but we lost major points of we constantly just looked down and read off them.

Whatever you do, just do not prepare something to memorize verbatim or a script of some kind. If you get flustered (like I used to) it's really easy to lose your place and that just makes things worse. Just keep some index cards with you that have on them the main topics you want to touch on in the order you want to cover them and make sure you know the shit out of your topic. That way you can just wing it if you get too nervous.
