No, but seriously folks, I think Chrono Cross is an under appreciated work of art. I downloaded a demo on Xbox Live for Eternal Sonata and I wanted to like it, but it was trying too hard to be super-gay

The battle system is a lot like Grandia II, if you've ever played that. It's turn-based, but every character has a limited amount of time to move across an open playing field, attack, retreat, whatever. So the strategy is more like a tactical RPG where you have to worry about character placement, but with a smaller group of characters and elements of turn-based play.

outside of final fantasy, old-school turn based rpgs are so frustratingly mediocre. i know i said that in the other thread but its true. virtually every one is a totally generic, cookie-cutter anime yawnfest with lame characters, lame script, lame enemies and lousy gameplay. there's no inspiration there. even final fantasy has sucked since FFX. this whole genre would be SO easy to revitalise and make incredible again but its like every rpg game developer has just given up. i've written better games in my sleep.

I skipped over RPGs when I was younger as I found them boring. It's only been in recent years that I've been playing them. I've almost finished Chrono Trigger and I've made it some ways through FF6.
Of the not-turn-based kind, I've nearly completed Morrowind several times though it usually gets too buggy towards the end that I decide to start again. I'm some way into a heavily modded Oblivion, and I've nearly completed Jade Empire.

One day I will finish one of these games. Maybe.

I think it depends on what you wanna get out of it. Breath of Fire 3 and Suikoden 1 & 2 are super old school, but they have really nice features to them as well. Breath of Fire 3 has cool characters and a pretty cool story, and i even find the fishing mini game alot of fun.

Suikoden are a league of their own, and although theyre not to such a high standard and such to FF series, theyre still unique and enjoyable for the story and game play.

Yeah FFX-2 sucked, and FF XII was let down by bogas characters and uninspired story but the gameplay innovation was great, I think future FF releases on the PS3 will be mind blowing and will recapture all those who have faded away from the series. Im sure theres somekind of FF VII remake in the works or something also
