one more thing before i go, i thought the mitchell report was going to get challenged in court by someone but it doesn't look like it. all the heresay and circumstantial evidence seemed weak and wouldn't hold up in court, but it's almost like they are daring these guys to go to court, get on the stand, and then have the fed go after them when they lie. it's actually fairly genius.

I would hope so, this whole report is libel in a nutshell. Even if the accusations are true I don't think it would be hard to prove libel, would it?

David Justice went into hyper-defense mode on cowherd today. He says he looked into buying HGH, but backed out because he "doesn't do needles."

I will admit that it is hard for me to be objective about Ortiz, but the hitting coaches with the Twins did not think he was a power hitter and had him swinging as such. He was also playing on an artificial surface that worsened his knee troubles. You can't drive the ball with a knee problem. He had knee problems this year, and as a result, his power decreased. This was also his first season without Ron Jackson, the hitting coach with the Red Sox, who he credits a lot with helping him fix his swing.

If you want to talk Sox who I'd suspect, it would be Schilling, Nixon and Kapler. |

I agree about Nixon, though it's hard. He's been one of my favorites and seems like such a nice guy, but even nice guys make bad decisions. |

Kapler's been adamant and outspoken about not using steroids for years. He even took a voluntary pee test in 2001 or something when some newspaper or magazine was doing an expose on the drug culture in MLB. The MLBPA was pretty upset at him afterwards. Sure, he could be lying for all these years, but I'd be truly surprised if he was into steroids. I think he's just a jacked dude, and it certainly didn't help his hitting.
As for Ortiz, I'm sick of hearing about his "sudden" development as a power hitter. He's been a power hitter throughout his career, you dolts. Check out his minor league stats if you don't believe me (18 homers in 96, 31 in 97, 30 in 99). Surely you people know that power is usually the last thing developed by hitters, and most hitters don't reach their full power potential until their late 20's and early 30's. His Minnesota numbers were hampered by injuries and lack of consistent playing time. edit: Nixon you could certainly make a case for, though. Several "steroid-esque" injuries. |
