this probably has nothing to do with the mac, but rather a shitty netgear router

CL, make sure you have only one "service", its actually more like a rule, for your port forwarding.... do a range from 1 to 65535 and point it to your IP... also make sure the IP your computer is getting from your router isn't changing.

Another test you can do (sorry if you already said you did) is to plug your machine directly into the the modem via ethernet and see if those services work. If they do, its the router, if they don't its your computer.... or worse yet, your ISP.

i just did the first thing, and the service just isn't showing up after i made it

but when i try to make another one with the same port range it says something like 'service already exists with this range' or whatever

and yeah i've tried the 2nd one, the things work directly from the modem...the problem's the router for sure.

not being sarcastic at all, i'm glad we're making progress on this, in the back of my mind i think it's been bugging me a little bit. at least we know it's the router.. my mom one time got on the phone with people who make their router and had them try to troubleshoot some stuff once.. they're always incented to pass the buck and try to blame something else, but it might be worth a try

well the portforwarding thing doesn't work. which IP address am I meant to put in for the service?

the computer's IP or the router's? I put in the computer's. I don't think it will let me use the router's IP
