some netphorians live in parts of the nation where this has been implemented for election of local officials and it's hard find some opinions on this internet about it.
if you don't know what it is, the wikipedia link explains it pretty well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting it makes sense to me because it helps the elimination of a two party system which is what's destroying the country. but i'm more interested in hearing reasons that i haven't heard/thought of yet as to why it may be a bad idea. |

it's facilitated by the fact people win by plurality, not majority. i mean, think of how many voters that are out there who actually might consider voting for a tier 2 candidate if it weren't for fear they'd be throwing their vote away. the system is such that if you vote for someone who's less likely to win, a person who you really don't agree with will make it into office. the minority vote has been split by a third candidate in the 92, 96, 2000 elections.
if you think that's sensible i'd like to know why. |

Very little gets done as it is with power shared among 2 groups, divide it even more and good luck doing anything. Newer parties would more than likely be fringe parties, that would need to be catered to even more than they are catered to now, since no one would have a strong majority. The problem lies in the center/everyday retards that vote based on campaign commercials. Who say they hate negative ads, but then eat it up. Public financing of elections would help loads more than multiple parties.

This is a far better system than what's been in place before. I'm for it.

We should ditch the current system and go with Parliament.
