Default Billy compared to Damon Albarn & Thom Yorke

How does Billy's solo projects match up with Albarns and Yorkes? They seem comparable because all of them fronted successful alternative rock bands and they all went on to electronic sounding solo projects.

My friend was telling me about how much of a failure The Future Embrace is compared to the Gorillaz albums and Thom Yorke's The Eraser. It does seem like theyve gone over better with people. Gorillaz are massively successful and The Eraser was nominated for a Grammy.

Billy sucks.

Thom Yorke can do no wrong.

Damon Albarn sucks without Graham Coxon.

Gorillaz wasn't a Damon Albarn "solo" album. Democrazy was, though.

actually, i've been under several names since '99, cocklunch.

and my previous post does not represent my true feelings on the subject. i was summarizing the general consensus amongst music fans. i despise Thom Yorke, and think TFE is underrated (for the most part). I do stand by my Damon Albarn comment, though.

The Eraser sounds like a bunch of rejected radiohead b-sides. Not that rejected radiohead b-sides are a bad thing but the album doesn't feel too distinctly different from Thom Yorke's work with radiohead. TFE sounds nothing like Pumpkins.

When TFE came out, I would have never thought this to be a good thing. Sure is it a compliment to the album now.

I haven't heard The Eraser... but it can't be too difficult to make a record better than TheFutureEmbrace. And I don't care about the Gorillaz guy's solo album...

The Eraser is one boring song repeated 9 times. It's a lot more consistant and a lot less interesting than TFE.

i quite like the gorillaz

however, they are no by means a solo effort...technically it's Albarn's project, but there are very few songs that dont contain contributions from others

Gorillaz kick ass. The self-titled and Demon Days are both ace.

The self titled is great. nice blend of styles. I dont like Demon Days nearly as much. I think hes starting to run out of ideas.

I think he's an arse tbh. Blur were good because of the guitar as much as the lyrics.

The Eraser is actually a great album..I think it has a pretty distinct sound compared to the Radiohead records...it's the best of the bunch..
Hate to say it, but Albarns not visionary as he's been credited for by some...
TFE?...not sure why, but i listen to it least of all Corgan related projects...

tfe = unique, visionary, sublime
eraser = ok but monotonous and repetitive
gorillaz = cool pop project with decent songs

The Eraser was a load of Crap.

TFE was better but still had room for improvement towards the second half of the album.

Gorillaz i have no opinion on since i have never heard their material.

albarn is a better actor that billy, i can give him that.
i don't even see blur in the same category as sp, so i don't completely understand the comparison though.
