Unhappy State of the Maple Leaf Nation

...is pretty goddamned pathetic right now, even for the Leafs. The fact that they can't figure out who's the starting goalie is only one of many problems. They'll win tonight, though, just because they got embarassed last game. And McCabe. Boy howdy.

7 million dollars a year. For this guy. Ouch. He's gonna get the shit booed out of his shit tonight.

I was watching the Stars yesterday, and i noticed mike modano is still playing. i don't understand how these guys in hockey last so long...

McCabe is a disgrace. I think Leafs fans need to motivate them by booing and hurling shit on to the ice after games they simply throw away.

Mats Sundin, and he's 36. Many elite hockey players come into the league at 18/19 as opposed to NFL players at like 22/23 so thats why he seems like he's so old. In 95, I think he was already with the Maple Leafs but he was with Quebec before that.

He's still an elite talent and a complete class act on a crappy team. He's one of my favorite non-Red Wings.

still the kind of beating these guys take over an 82 game season and the playoffs would make me think that guys over the age of 35 would be completely run down and innefective but it seems like the greats always play until they're 40.

They're with Vancouver though. And highly overrated.

I don't have an explanation. I think they're just taught to play through more pain then athletes in other sports. The fact Chris Chelios at 46 still plays at the level and intensity that he does is amazing.

Really, the only time I see top-level hockey players drop off in their early-30's is from concussions. If they can avoid concussions, the greats are always amazing up til 40.

It's been stated by Kenny Holland (Red Wings GM) that he has no problem signing him to <1 mil, 1-year deals until he's 50, yeah. I think if the Wings win the Cup, Chelios rides off into the sunset, though.

McCabe scored tonight. Looks like we'll have to vent our anger towards Raycroft.

This thread makes me realize how much I miss Yzerman. He was one of hockey's true gentlemen. A pity Detroit doesn't care about hockey anymore, because for a long time they were the only sports franchise in Detroit worth giving two shits about. I still root for 'em, but man I miss Shanny and Stevie. Lidstrom is a great captain, for sure, but it just isn't the same in Hockeytown anymore.

I don't care if the motherfucker scores a goal to tie it or not, he's overpaid and he sucks. Get off the team and make some cap room. Seriously, I'm so sick of his fucker and his douche-y face on the team.

Same goes for Sundin, kinda. I actually like him as a player, but he's way past his prime and they should bounce him for some more $.

I dunno if we can hate-on Raycroft yet, Toskala is probably going to be the #1 goalie. I get the feeling Maurice will bounce Raycroft and Toskala after each game - when one has a shitty game, he'll put in the other and never quite settle on a "#1 goalie". It'll make for interesting hockey, but not many points.

Sad part is, if Sundin was on a different team if some good back up, he could have been one of the greats. As it stands, he's the guy who held a shitty team at barely .500 level. Way to go, Matts.

i loathe the Leafs and i hate riding on the train after a game has gotten out, bunch of hosers screaming GOLEAFSGO the entire hour home. i hate living in a city where everyone is a die hard leafs fan even though the team has sucked for YEARS especially since after Wendel Clark. Ottawa is underrated, they're a good team this year but you can't actually say that here without people getting all huffy about it. you better believe i didn't put any toronto players on my hockey pool sheet.

Not only that i read in the paper the leafs are the most expensive NHL team tickets at an average of $88 each. Buffalo is the second lowest with an average of $33 each, so if i'm going to go see a game its much cheaper to drive the 2 hours to Buffalo to actually see a team that doesn't suck quite as bad.

I agree. The Leafs remind me of the GM plant in my city which is comprised of lazy unionized workers who produce inferior products like the sunfire and the PT cruiser; completely useless.

Haha that's actually a pretty good analogy.

McCabe's only a 5.5M cap hit, which is all the fans should care about. Still, 5.5 is probably 1.5.-2M too much for him. Much like Souray with the Oilers. Goddamnit Lowe.

I don't mind the leafs when they stink. They're kinda funny in a way, easy to ignore and all. i even feel the odd twinge of sympathy. It's when they get even semi-good that the fans get fucking annoying.

And what's this Kids in the Hall skit? I'm curious.

And, shockingly, the Leafs lost again tonight. Yeesh.

UGHH!!! To Atlanta- the last place team? The Leafs are an embarrassment. It's only been a month in and I can say with absolute certainty that they're finished.

Yeah, I know. I at least thought they might squeak into a playoff spot this year. Maybe.

However, last year they did play better on the road and they got 6 road games comming up. Might pull it off then.

Hell, they put up a point. Yay.
