One of the standard tourist things to do is to do the run up the Art Museum steps like Rocky, but few actually decide to check out the Philadelphia Museum of Art (open all weekend). Though I'm not an art conoseur, I enjoy my visit whenever I go there, it's not huge like New York's Met where you need most of the day to see it all. I don't know anything about the bars & clubs in the downtown area, but I've heard a lot about Johnny Brenda's, a bar with live music. It was actually in a recent Rolling Stone as one of Philly's hot spots. |

I agree with a lot that was already mentioned in the thread as far as it being nice as far as public transportation (SEPTA rail at least) and the tourist-y stuff is all in one place for the most part. South Street is a must and a lot of the music venues (Trocadero, TLA, Electric Factory) are near each other also. I cannot personally vouch for any cheese steak place, they all look the same and sort of gross to me. I wish I could be of more help.

at the art museum in philly, they have the last artwork marcel duchamp ever made! you see it by peeking through a hole in a wooden door. the rest is a surprise.

i was thinking i wouldn't apply for admission this go-round, but this would at least get me in the right mindset, and it would assure me that i'm doing the right things that will help get me in the door. i can't figure out of i could get into Penn and Harvard, etc, or not. i mean, Swati majored in gender studies and had a gpa as bad as mine, and she got right into Columbia's International Relations program. so it's clearly not impossible. if i could get in this admissions round, i should just fucking go already. but i want to be sure that i don't apply looking like an idiot, and i also sorta need to pay off some debt before i get myself into a three year grad school situation, so waiting to apply until Jan 09 might be smart. i don't know. i just want to go to a good school and be an awesome landscape architect and change things. i'm asking a bit much, bt i want it to happen. also, i want to go back to a honest to god real city, with grime and crime and concerts and stuff. and philly sounds good and it's so close to nyc! |

Liz, my sister-in-law is attending Penn for green architecture. She graduated w/ her Masters in Architecture from UT Arlington and is now working on something there. Would you like me to get some info for you?

woah, thanks for the offer. let me figure out what i'm doing about this admissions info session, and then i'll know how an alliance with your sister-in-law could best help me (without wasting her time with my waffling!). i really appreciate that you mentioned this.

nevermind, just double-checked. they're all related now. fillmore is owned by livenation/clearchannel (but LN just split from CC right?). it's now something like "the fillmore at TLA" or "the fillmore philadelphia at TLA" irving plaza is nwo "the fillmore at irving plaza". |
