Default Got promotion now my work wants me to sign a contract but I'm hesitant

Got promotion

making 12k a year more guaranteed

now they want me to sign a contract

details of said contract are:

Guaranteed 3% raise per year

4.5% anual bonus get 3.5% now so upgrade there

downside

have to stay at austin location for next 4 years

can't work for any other companies during that time (so cant do freelance side jobs im doing now)

kinda hesitant but dunno how they'll react if I say no

anyone else have any experience with work contracts?

Yeah but I guess I have issues with wanting to move up and beyond. Our company also has a Saint Louis and Chicago branch that I was starting to gain intrest in. I'd actually love to move back to Saint Louis. I love the company but am freaked out at the idea that I'll be working at the same office till im nearly 30.

Quarter-life crisis when I thought about it that way

4 years isn't that bad. it's like going through high school or college or whatnot. at least you get to go thru the whole thing knowing at some point you will be free again!

how much do you make in freelance now? is it considerably more? would you be doing as much work under this raise? how likely would it have been that you'd leave in the next 4ish years anyway?

i'm one who goes for stability, so i'd be stoked for something like that... speaking of which...

i just started getting 6hrs per paycheck of annual leave instead of 4!
booyah!
oh and i'm a real employee - not career conditional anymore.
