Oh ok, so they're both misdemeanors whereas murder is a felony, but let's split down a nice line and have the really serious lawbreakers like murderers, rapists, illegal immigrants and pot smokers on one side, and on the other side the people breaking laws that just aren't that important vv

god this is so dumb, why do you fucking respond to these chimpanzees

this whole thread is an embarassment and the people who had legitimate, intelligent responses to supreme idiocy should really use their time more wisely.

Sorry I missed the page.

Yes, the US is exploiting Mexican workers, but it is exploiting them because they are supporting immigration practices that don't allow immigrants to come in and use their full market power of marginal revenue product. We would see immigrant wages (and standard of living) shoot through the roof (and this is a good thing) if they were allowed to come over and work in greater numbers. This has been historically demonstrated when past immigrant groups were allowed to come in with much less restrictions.

But yes, the Unions and Corporations would like to keep Mexican labour cheap and they are using US laws to do it. They are also using the welfare/warfare state to accomplish this as well.

I may be a hard-line free marketer, but I am not blind to the intervention going on. Nor do I just assume that all business action is ok.

Army service is sold to Mexican immigrants as a legitimate "career" and welfare services are used to create dependents on the system. This is done regardless of immigration status, but with the immigrants it a) removes them from competitive productive work b) makes them an easy scapegoat for more anti-immigrant legislation.

My position on welfare has nothing to do with this issue. The point is that welfarism is a means to make immigrants a scapegoat and pass more anti-immigration laws. If you looks at a lot of the basis for anti-immigrant rhetoric and action, it is "they are stealing X." In other words, it's not so much about their interaction with the market as a their "stealing" of limited (re: non-produced, re: doled, re: government) resources.

i was aware of that. but do you really think it would help the economy if there were no welfare services at all? i guess they have their pros and cons but does this immigration issue actually justify taking them away completely?

and seriously, a thread with a title like this can be used to talk about anything without hesitation

Definitely.

To answer your second question, the immigration issue alone is clearly not the sole (or even a major) consideration for abdicating from the philosophy of welfarism. There are plenty of other reasons.

Yes, I decided I'd rather not go into it here. I have too much work to do. Just search my name and welfare - you get like 25 threads.
