Default Advice on renting a car. I need some.

I need to make a car rental reservation soon and have never done so. For those of you who have, what agency did you use? Was it any good? There are a couple of places nearby (Spallco and Enterprise) and I am leaning towards Enterprise because they are cheaper and can pick me up. I don't need anything big but I also do not want to be stuck with something too tiny. I need something about the size of a Corolla or Camry, not too fancy or too big. So...help?

hotwire.com is usually cheapest. kayak.com can find good deals, too.

Agency doesn't matter much at all, but convenience plays a factor with them oftentimes.

If you pay more than $25/day you're getting screwed.

Never take their insurance if you have your own and always inspect the car well before driving off the lot - mark any dents, scratches, etc. so they don't attempt to frame you for anything.

I suggest getting insurance so you can beat the FUCK out of the car with absolutely no blowback. I was forced to rent a Neon once... getting insurance on it made me able to attempt to destroy its transmission, blow out its suspension, and I certainly brought the tire life, after about two days, down 50%. I was ruthless with that thing. Going down hills I'd put it in neutral and floor it just to force it to bounce off of the rev limiter. Fucking piece of shit Neon. *spits*

also most places will require you to have a credit card. NOT A DEBIT CARD. that way if you dont return the car the credit card company has to pay for it. it took me 1/2 a day of my vacation to find a rental place i could use on a cash basis. i dont even have a credit card.

I have rented a lot of cars recently. I do like enterprise myself. The advice given so far has been quailty.

All I can add is don't worry so much when u drive it. I found driving a rental stressful if I jusr worried all the time

For a while, I didn't realize you usually had to be 25, or sometimes just 21, to rent a car. If this policy hadn't been in existence, I would've rented one to go on a trip when the lack of a car prevented it.
