Just got done changing my oil

I used Mobil1 full synthetic. Pretty pricey @ 5$/qt. But well worth it. How often do you motherfuckers change your oil. I usually stick to a tight 3000 miles interval. With the synthetic I could stretch it to around 5000, but I really enjoy getting under my car four times a year.

I do it whenever I get time between the 2500-3500 mark.

Twice a year ... we have to get a 6 monthly warrant of fitness (road safety/compliance check) in NZ so I change the oil whenever the warrant is due. Usually change the oil filter around now (going into winter) and just oil the next time round.

My car is a shitter though ... so I don't bother with the synthetics - straight 20-40 mineral for my beast

Giving your car an oil change is just about the best thing you can do for it - and it's so easy to do .... screw paying $50 for a grease monkey to do it for me

the last two oil changes i've had were free because my brother delivers pizza dn they give him free oil change coupons.

this may 10th(next due change), i'll just go to walmart and get the 5 whatever things i need. i usually have my dad pick out what kind/brand i need and i actually change it.

changing your oil every 3000 miles is such a scam by those quick lube places. check your manual, i bet it says you should change your oil every 7,500 miles, and if you do severe and lots of short distance driving then its 5,000. plus you add the fact that you're using quality synthetic oil, you can prolly extend your intervals even longer without doing any harm to your engine. the 3,000 mile interval made sense maybe over 10, 20, 30 years ago, but nowadays with the advancement of technology its really not needed and all those extra oil changes is bad for the environment. all you hear is "3,000" from all those quick lube places so they get more money from people coming in more often. And don't say that the auto manufacturers are in turn trying to trick you into hurting your car with their 7,500 recommendation because that is just plain stupid. Automakers depend on having a good reputation in order to sell more cars.

but let me digress, it certainly doesn't hurt your car to change the oil so often, and I would have to question your use of synthetic because you cancel out one of its major advantages (how long its good for) by changing your oil so often.

any trustworthy mechanic that is up with the times would prolly tell you 5,000 miles, minimum. if he tells you 3,000, he may be just terribly old fashion or money hungry...

This is true, every 3k is a big scam. I've heard from several sources that twice a year for the average driver is just fine.
