FOR 5 HOURS THIS THING WOULD NOT WORK.

I CLICK SIGN ON.

I HEAR A DIAL TONE VERY FAINTLY UNDERNEATH A SHITLOAD OF SOME SORT OF VIOLENT CRACKLE. WHAT IN THE HELL.

SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS.

Very few things frustrate me more than this.

my computer used to want to dial up at start-up even though i have DSL

and to this day, i cannot figure out why

check your phone line. make sure it's clear
check the jacks make sure they are all hooked in well

and then try to explain to use in a bit more of a coherent manner what you're asking.

Done and done. Several times.

I don't really know how to explain what I'm asking....that's the problem.

Just....when you should hear a clear dial tone and the number being dialed...I hear a dial tone...and a bunch of other weird noises over it. And then sometimes the number will dial....underneath all the crazy noise...and then it will just make more crazy noises until it either says 'The modem has reported that there is no dial tone' or 'Your modem was unable to establish a connection.'

Check for a short between the keyboard and chair. Could be an ID10t error.
