YES. RINGU is hella weak compared to The Ring. I just had to laugh when in Ringu, the dead victims only had a surprised look on their faces (instead of the really really fucked up faces in the ring), and they try to play it off as being scary. And the ex-husband having ESP was fucking LAME LAME LAME LAME stupid plot crutch (oh he's psychic, so all he has to do is touch the dad and automatically KNOWS EVERYTHING NO MORE MYSTERY HERE). Man Ringu felt like a really dumbed down movie, with the characters really spelling out everything - "we find the girl and that will lift the curse, really? it will lift the curse? really? finding the girl should lift the curse!? Really?!? I really hope findint the girl should lift the curse! Yes? lift the cursE!?".

the ONLY thing that Ringu was better in was the actress that played the girl was scarier. You didn't see her face, but she had some gnarly fucked up fingers and had a really disturbing way she moved back and forth.
