Default BioShock (PC, Xbox 360)

First, here's a few links for those that are unfamiliar with the game:

http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/enter.html
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/15682.html
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/18131.html

So we're about five days from the official release of the game and the reviews thus far have been overwhelmingly positive. Right now its holding a rating of 98% on metacritic. If this score holds steady over the next few days, this wouldn't just make it one of the highest-rated games of the last few years, but one of the highest-rated games of all time. I remember being pretty amazed at the first few videos of the game last year, but I never imagined it would get this sort of universal acclaim.

The demo was released on Xbox Live a few days ago; has anyone here had the pleasure of playing it yet? I'm still waiting for the PC demo . I've also heard that a few stores (particularly Toys R Us) have already started selling copies of the game.

For those of you that have played it in any sort of capacity, what do you think? Is it deserving of all the praise its been receiving?

Is this the Art Deco Style Underwater Science Experiment Utopia City one?

It looks pretty awesome.
One of the reasons I went ahead and bought a 360.

Im impatiently waiting for the PC demo myself. Since the 360 demo was released 5 days ago, there has been no update on this PC demo that was supposed to come out simultaneously. Sorta pointless for a demo to come out 2 days before the actual game does.

Actually, I dont mind because ill get to test my PC to see if I can run it well enough before spending the $50 to find out it runs like shit.

the demo is kind of cool. actual melee combat and shooting people with the pistol isn't that great, though. i guess you need to make use of your environment more, and stuff.

looks like a brilliant idea but i have to say i'm skeptical about the gameplay- the levels look very dull, despite the attention to visual detail. the game's planning won't beat half-life, for sure.

i'm not really interested in single player shooters. i've had call of duty 3 since christmas, and have played it online off and on since, but i am just now starting to go through the single player campaign. coop games are a blast, though.

Normally I don't download demos but thats exactly why I plan on playing through this one. My computer was absolutely top-of-the-line when I got it two years ago, but the last "new" games I bought were Half-Life 2 and Doom III.

EDIT: Actually, scratch that; I played through Prey as well without a hiccup (though I'm not sure how much more demanding BioShock's system reqs will be).

I watched Chris play it for a good while yesterday. I was surprised by how long the demo actually is... Maybe I just haven't played a demo since 1997, but I expected the whole experience to last a grand total of 2 minutes.

Anyway, the graphics were good and it was definitely creepy, but since I didn't actually play it I don't know that I can say much else. Hacking the units is a great feature. It seems like using the pistol is really hard. And, this could be me showcasing how often I play FPS games (which is rarely), but I didn't like not being given the option of "zooming out" so you could see yourself.

Is there a part in the demo for hacking the units? I liked it, I had a hard bit aiming too, but I dont really play FPS.

Yeah, you can hack units in the demo. The little flying things and a turret in the bathroom.

yes, i have the wheel and both games. it is pretty sweet - i will never play a racing videogame without a wheel again. i've always had wheels before, but the forcefeedback really makes the experience.

http://games.softpedia.com/progDownl...oad-19377.html

Heres a link for the demo from softpedia. Afaik, the link only works if you're using Internet Download Manager...otherwise the download stops after a few minutes with a corrupt file error. I'm downloading at a little over 400kb/s at the moment.

edit: good thing I tried the demo before buying; game runs like shit :/
