Seems good ol' Amerikan white-trash tradition has made it's way accross the pond, in more ways than Britney, Skynyrd and bad dental hygeine.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6424937.stm Couple stand by forbidden love By Tristana Moore BBC News, Berlin Patrick Stuebing and Susan Karolewski Patrick and Susan did not know each other as children. They share a small flat in an east German tower block on the outskirts of the city. It looks like an ordinary family scene, but Patrick is Susan's brother and they are lovers. "Many people see it as a crime, but we've done nothing wrong," said Patrick, an unemployed locksmith. "We are like normal lovers. We want to have a family. Our whole family broke apart when we were younger, and after that happened, Susan and I were brought closer together," he said. Patrick, who is 30 years old, was adopted and, as a child, he lived in Potsdam. He did not meet his mother and biological family until he was 23. He travelled to Leipzig with a friend in 2000, determined to make contact with his other relatives. This law is out of date and it breaches the couple's civil rights Lawyer Endrik Wilhelm He met his sister Susan for the first time, and according to the couple, after their mother died, they fell in love. "When I was younger, I didn't know that I had a brother. I met Patrick and I was so surprised," said Susan, who is 22. She says she does not feel guilty about their relationship. "I hope this law will be overturned," Susan said. "I just want to live with my family, and be left alone by the authorities and by the courts," she went on, in a hardly audible voice. why didn't he ask "what the fuck is wrong with americans" while clearly acknowledging that they are better known for these kinds of shenanigans

Incest and bad teeth is the national pride of the UK and the US has nothing on them.

Cleopatra had the most powerful men in the world chasing after her and she was born of like the 9th generation of brother & sister incest. the retarded children, deformations, etc are really myth
you could argue incest is socially degenerate, but so is body modification, homosexuality, etc etc. |

incest was a social norm in that time and place, at least for the royalty. if you tried it today tehre would be a lot of social & psychological baggage. that's the main reason ive refused my sister's advances

we had guppies in our office about two years ago. two of them - male and female.
they mated, and had many many babies, as guppies do. mommy and daddy died/were moved elsewhere before the kids were big enough to breed. one or two pairs of kids mated with eachother. again - many babies born. - however, also many undeveloped eggs birthed as well. these kids have kids and.... no more breeding. it just stopped at the third generation (fourth?) many of the babies had severely bent spines, and died. only one of them is still alive. moral of the story? let incest get out of control and god says "no" |

edit - apparently the natural repulsion you feel to hooking up with a sibling is because you were raised with them. non-related kids who are raised with each other feel the same repulsion. arranged marriages where the children have been raised together are notoriously difficult and result in higher infertility Last edited by smurfing : 08-14-2007 at 10:58 PM. |

well yeah, but i mean, technically i'm going with pure incest here. ... but it seems to me that incest causes more likelihood of issues - isn't that mostly the reason it's considered uncouth/illegal?

charles darwin and albert einstein married their first cousins. the increase in the risk of birth defects with first cousins is only from 3-4% to 4-7%. i cant find a figure for siblings

What I like most, is their apparent denial that epilepsy, learning difficulties and having "special needs" aren't disabilities of any sort. Oh and the fact that they waited, until their mum died to start getting it on.

Secondly - Okay it's true we have inbred reptiles sponging millions of our taxes a year, but it beats having a Texan as president (only just). Saying that Willie Nelson would probably be okay. Thirdly - What does the UK even have to do with this thread? Finally - Don't get me wrong, I'm about as nationalist as someone who's not at all nationalist. |

anyway that doesn't make what these two have done morally wrong. they're not harming each other — there's no family unit to destroy so that's not an argument here, and they didn't meet until they were adults so it's not like there's an imbalance of influence and responsibility in which one has unethically taken advantage of the other (as you would have between a father and a daughter, or a teacher and a student, or a doctor and a patient). so are they harming a third party? i suppose you could argue that producing offspring in conditions with a higher-than-normal chance of genetic disorders is unethical, but as they point out, what then of people with hereditary genetic conditions or 40+ women and so on? we don't make it illegal for them to reproduce, despite the increased risks. it really is just a double standard based on popular morality. |
