one of my best friends growing up was Dutch. we would laugh at each other all the time when attempting so speak each other's language cause inevitably, we would say something wrong that would either turn out to be a bad word, or the grammar would be way off, or the accent would be so horrible you couldn't help but laugh.

Exactly.

I actually just found the business card of this guy I met after I was robbed in Costa Rica. He was comforting Chris and I on a ferry after he had rode his bike around the block to try and find the thieves. He was very nice and was trying to offer to let us stay at his house with his wife, and give me some of her clothes because we were the same size. Ultimately it didn't work out because we spoke such horrible Spanish and he spoke horrible English. We both ended up just laughing at each other each time we tried to communicate and were met with nothing but confusion, and spent the rest of the ferry just shooting each other occasional smiles, which are understandable in any language.

Wow, how sweet of them. (oh, that was edited: you didn't go to his house?)

No, it would've been too awkward, and he lived quite a ways away from our next destination, which also would've been awkward to get to since it was a very rural area (i.e., no cabs or buses to take us back). But I still have his business card he gave us:

GAER. Edgar Soto D.
Bicicletas, repuestos, accesorios y mecanica en general
