Arrow Shit.

I got kind of distracted. I'm supposed to be editing my essay but i started reading wordsworht's poetry and man. I understand why i'm spending so much time writing about him.

William Wordsworth. 1770–1850

539. Mutability

FROM low to high doth dissolution climb,
And sink from high to low, along a scale
Of awful notes, whose concord shall not fail;
A musical but melancholy chime,
Which they can hear who meddle not with crime,
Nor avarice, nor over-anxious care.
Truth fails not; but her outward forms that bear
The longest date do melt like frosty rime,
That in the morning whiten'd hill and plain
And is no more; drop like the tower sublime
Of yesterday, which royally did wear
His crown of weeds, but could not even sustain
Some casual shout that broke the silent air,
Or the unimaginable touch of Time.

both my parents were english majors. Both are successful, but neither of their careers involve what they were taught as a result of the choice in major. My dad's project manager at a large commercial remodeling company, and my mom was a teacher. teaching is kind of standard but it hink the point of being an english major is that it can prepare you to interpret and write well, which is transferable to almost any line of work.

that's my excuse for getting to read and write and call it schoolwork.

I miss dissecting poetry. ;(
THat's a good one. I want to share one of my favorite ones by one of my favorite poets, David Ignatow. It's about how when you fall in love with someone you pretty much forget about the rest of the world and become "dead" to the world.

Rescue The Dead

Finally, to forgo love is to kiss a leaf,
is to let rain fall nakedly upon your head,
is to respect fire,
is to study man's eyes and his gestures
as he talks,
is to set bread upon the table
and a knife discreetly by,
is to pass through crowds
like a crowd of oneself.
Not to live is to live.

To love is to be led away
into a forest where the secret grave
is dug, singing, praising darkness
under the trees.

To live is to sign your name,
is to ignore the dead,
is to carry a wallet
and shake hands.

To love is to be a fish.
My boat wallows in the sea.
You who are free,
rescue the dead.

I'm thinking about focusing on the British Romantics as my area of focus within my major. <3 Wordsworth.

Anyway, I may or may not wind up doubling in journalism. I'm taking all the pre-reqs, but I haven't decided yet.

Journalism would have been good for me to look into, I think. I regret not taking a few classes in that to see whether or not i'd take a liking to it. Not that I don' love being an english major, but now that i'm almost done i feel like I still need SO MUCH more education on the subject to even call myself somewhat knowledgeable in the field. and then there's te whole "What do you do with the degree?" thing when i'm done with it. erg.

Yeah he lived in the 90s...he just died a few years ago...I never got to meet him
Here's two more poems by him for you.

Content

I should be content
to look at a mountain
for what it is
and not as a comment
on my life.

To an Apple

You were rotten
and I sliced you into pieces
looking for a wholesome part,
then threw you into the street.
You were eaten by a horse,
dipping his head to nibble
gently at the skin.
I heard later he became violently ill,
died and was shipped off
to be processed. I think about it
and write of the good in you.

I would recommend buying his book titled "Against the Evidence: Selected Poems 1934-1994"
