Philosophy, the abode of any truly meaningful thought or idea, is the deepest well the human mind has to draw upon for enriching itself with passion, creative control, and wisdom. However, I've noticed a flaw inherent in your approach. You seem to be having this tug-of-war in your brain between competing factions, science and spirituality, when the answer you seek is in your hands all along. Philosophy itself is the rope, and its primary function doesn't change whether it's in the hands of science or in the hands of spirituality. It's value is in that it doesn't belong to anyone or anything other than yourself, it's there chiefly to clarify your thinking, awaken your brain, and help you discover what is truly valuable to you. These elusive truths about the reality of what we are, do not merely need to be thought about in question form. Where did the universe come from? Is there a God? Is there an afterlife? Where does morality come from? There is a more subtle, practical approach available.

Spirituality can quite successfully be divorced from metaphysical concepts. God has even less authority over the meaning of our lives than we do. If we have a soul, if we will exist forever in soul form after we die, it really doesn't change anything in the here and now. Any purpose that our lives have must be implicit in our actions and our experiences as they are. Being lowly and mortal and primitive doesn't hinder in the slightest the beauty in life that we are completely capable of understanding, without reference to concieted spiritual concepts. For instance, we are capable of knowing that our existence has only been made possible through billions of years of cosmic and biological evolution. We posses minds that are capable of spanning the universe, inventing ones of our own, and experiencing powerful emotions like hatred and love. We are acutely aware of our own mortality. Thus, I believe that we have an enourmous repsonsibility to ourselves and to eachother to make the absolute most of every moment, because in all likelihood, this is all we'll get. Any meaning you can conjur up in your brain is sufficient enough. But these things are much easier said than done.
