You mean more of a scam right? I don't think anyone was saying it was less of a scam.

It's not though, you're meant to accept it as absolute fact. When you reach a certain 'level' you're supposed to actually *know* it's the truth - they test you and if you don't, you're not ready and you have to repeat the level (and pay more $$$). It's brainwashing all the way. Also Tom Cruise is many levels beyond that one

Here's some sites:

Operation Clambake - http://xenu.net/ - A site with much information on the Cult of $cn

The Road To Xenu - http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Library/Shelf/xenu/ - a semi fictional, semi autobiographical account of "Margery Wakefield" and her experience in $cn.

Understanding Scientology - http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Library/S...efield/us.html - by Wakefield and with contributions from other writers, this is more factual than The Road to Xenu but a harder read - best read after reading TRTX first.

If you look here, and go down to 'The following comments were made' it describes what I was talking about. The site itself has a lot of information, they're obviously excitable about the whole thing but there are a lot of accounts, especially from people in the organization.

all religious institutions want/need money to continue, but a huge difference between scientology and many other religions is the dinero. you literally have to pay to know the message or what have you. it's a closed group that doesn't offer much in the way of information.

you can be poor and go to mass at many christian churches. also, god's plan is pretty much common knowledge. it's also pretty clear that money can't buy your way to salvation/heaven. doesn't seem to be the case with scientology. can you even be in a church of scientology without paying admission to hear a message? seriously, can you get beyond a lobby and simple pamphlets? how much would it set me back to be near tom cruise's level?

didn't they proclaim cruise to be their god just a few days ago?

Man, anyone seen this?

http://www.holysmoke.org/cos/the-cru...le.-crisis.htm

Quote:
When Keith Henson posted a joke about blowing up Church of Scientology members with a "Tom Cruise Missile" in the alt.religion.scientology newsgroup, he didn't think it would get him arrested. Granted, it wasn't the cleverest joke ever made, but to date there are no criminal statutes on the books that punish bad humor. Despite this glaring hole in our country's legislation, Henson's posts were admitted as evidence in April when he was brought up on charges of terrorism, attempted terrorism, and interfering with freedom to enjoy a constitutional right (freedom of religion). Henson was convicted of the interfering charge (a hate crime) in a California court and sentenced to up to a year in prison, in addition to a fine of $3,000. Before sentencing Henson jumped bail and sought political asylum in Canada where, at press time, he remains. With one quick darter of the keys, Henson had joined the esteemed ranks of Lenny Bruce and George Carlin--those who've been arrested for telling jokes.

i found it to be a bunch of extremes - the things about it that are positive are excellent and the negatives are horrendous. one thing about that state, they take issues somewhat seriously. here in illinois nothing seems to change much. elections rarely ******* a laundry list of initiatives.

i'm glad i don't live in the state that xenu messiah's home base is in.

Is scientology actually classed as a religion in the US? It's not over here(UK), in fact the courts ruled that it wasn't.

i wonder how much tom cruise has handed over. it would be pretty awesome if he was penniless now.

it always seemed to me it was just sort of a big networking tool stars join for the connections and normal people pay to be in to belong to something or be like the stars

$cn celebrities probably get preferential treatment, lower prices etc... to keep them in the cult. They probably don't see half the crazy shit regular drones do, either.
