Default holy fucking woah

average employee pay at Goldman Sachs for 2006: $622,000

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...rD0&refer=home

granted, their doubled profits were a wall street record, but seriously. holy fucking shit

also granted, there are people with multi-million incomes for the year bringing the average up, but still

i did back in college. coudln't even get an interview. part of the story was that they actaully weren't hiring, they were just conducting 'interviews' to maintain the recruiting relationship with the school for the future, but even so. i'm a lot better qualified now, but they like to hire people fresh out of school, either undergrad or mba, and i'm several years out of undergrad and haven't started mba and won't for a few years

what, they prefer undergrads without real experience? i'd think someone like you, despite not having an mba, would be more of an interest to them because you have actual experience. what's their thought process on that?

all my friends getting mba seem to earn it in a fairly short amount of time ... like, in a year. but i guess its sheer hell balancing a job on that and everything

someone like me is accustomed to shorter work days (a mere 10 hours or so) and already has well defined work habits and methods that aren't necessarily the same as waht they ingrain into their new hires.

also, generally speaking, they prefer to hire in waves, twice a year, with the bigger wave coming in the spring. that way they conduct mass training and everyone's at the same starting point, etc. the dynamics are probably better in their eyes if everyone is at the same starting point -- it's very competitive, and you pretty much live with these people so they're very concered with the fit, and being the 'old' guy with all this irrelevant experience might make for a less than ideal fit

at least that's what i know of it from the outside, i'm sure there's exceptions here and there, but that's been my general understanding

edit: waht the fuck do i know, i'm largely making excuses

eh i think you're pretty spot on. i have a good friend who works there, got hired right out of college. it's hardcore, hardcore ratrace. friend says it's a great experience, they're moving up through the ranks fairly well, but it's not the kind of thing they think they could sustain for more than a few years.

The point is, ladies and gentleman, is that greed - for lack of a better word - is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms - greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge - has marked the upward surge of mankind.

Totally man. We should all just get rid of money and live in villages. Then we can have like one guy who makes bread, and one guy who looks out for safety and another guy who has medical knowledge and they can all just trade with eachother. It will be awesome.
