Default So what's this about Rex Grossman being worthless?

He's not looking amazing. But he is definitely looking good enough to help this team win the NFC.

good deal. let's hope this time he can keep it up.

They shouldn't bench Grossman (his confidence would be so shot that the Bears would have to begin yet ANOTHER search for a franchise QB, and Griese isn't the answer), but don't anyone kid themselves into thinking that the Bears are winning most of their games because of him. They're winning them despite all of his boneheaded INTs and his 1.3 passer rating games. Devin Hester and the Bears D have bailed Grossman out countless times this season.

Still, as the Bucs and Ravens proved with legends Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer, teams with lights-out defenses and solid special teams can get away with starting a crap QB and win a Super Bowl. So yeah...don't bother benching Grossman.

The bottom line is, Grossman at his best wins games himself, at his worst does everything he can to lose the game but still wins somehow. Griese has zero upside...at best he'll play to not lose. Given the Bears' situation, they can afford to make the play for upside with their QB.

Griese is a better short term option. It's clear Grossman isn't the answer in the short of long term. Who cares if you break the confidence of a bad QB?

Somehow, I don't see Griese throwing for 275 yards and 4 touchdowns on his best days, like Grossman can when he's on. And though it's solid, the Bears ground game isn't exactly electric this season (they seem to be trying to decide whether or not drafting Cedric Benson was a mistake), which means the heat will be on Griese to carry the team more often than the Bears might like. Griese's a statue in the pocket, needs perfect protection to perform well, is coming off of major knee surgery, and has an average arm at the very best.

He's also a notorious alcoholic.

Granted, he didn't stink and it's arguable whether you can bench the QB in a winning team; not saying they shouldn't, just it almost never happens. The Bears' D, weakened as it is, doesn't seem tough enough to take them all the way. Where is the passing game anyway, not taking Grossman into account? One decent speedster (Berrian), who got away with a blatant Off-pass-Interference call and a solid possession guy in Muhammed.

Also, this was the Rams they beat. They didn't exert much pressure on Grossman, who dodged the bullet with the fumble that wasn't at the end of the first half. The officiating sucked all around, although this was no surprise considering the crew.

Take away the two special teams TDs and the missed extra point and the Rams held them even.

If any of you thought my post was remotely in favor of Rex Grossman's play you were wrong. Am I the only one that saw Lovie's postgame press conference last week?

no i saw it like 100 times.

And like Tckocky was saying, when Grossman plays well, he's pretty damn good. Everyone seemed to forget about the first five games of the year because of the next seven. Now, normally QBs don't have a slide that lasts that long. But can we maybe wait another week and see if this upswing continues?

The banged up defense is really worrying though. Giving up four TDs to the Rams? ouch.

lovie's press conference wasn't nearly as good as denny green's after they lost to the bears

THEY WERE EXACTLY WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE! AND WE LET 'EM OFF THE HOOK!

No, I knew exactly what you were saying.

When I see Grossman in the playoffs for the Bears as Lovie's choice because "we go tthere with him" I'm reminded of Grady Little and Pedro Martinez in the 2003 ALCS

i love how brian greise is the new superhero that will play better than rex grossman

there's a reason he has played for like five different teams

exactly. Now, I may be biased because I've been a Rex Grossman fan since he was a Gator....but I truly believe he can develop into a longtime Bears QB. and lord knows they need one. I think the Bears will stick by him even if he does end up fucking this year up. whether or not that's a good thing, i don't really know.

But you know what....the Bears have other problems too. Their run defense hasn't been that great all year. The running game is inconsistent. Jones's numbers seem a bit skewed because of his two runs that went for 50 yards on that one drive. If (when?) the Bears don't make it to the Super Bowl, I really don't think it will be entirely Grossman's fault. His slump is over (hopefully). i think everyone needs to move on.

But the Saints are looking pretty good right now. but a week ago, I said that about the Cowboys. and five weeks ago, everyone was saying that about the Giants. so who knows.

i said he had been playing rather poorly. but uh, he had been. I was never in favor of even considering benching him. He is fully capable of playing well. and i never said otherwise. i hate when people here put words in my mouth in order for it to be easier to talk shit.

As a bears fan, I don't mind saying that we will go nowhere in the playoffs. Its doesn't matter who the qb is.
